Job summary

Maestro Headhunters is seeking a Piping Lead Engineer for our client in Powai, Mumbai. You will lead piping engineering for oil and gas, refinery and petrochemical projects from FEED to construction, developing layouts, isometrics, and interfacing with multi-disciplinary teams.

You will manage schedules, mentor engineers, review 3D models (SP3D/PDMS), ensure compliance with ASME/API standards, control costs, and deliver quality piping deliverables on time.

Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
• 10 to 15 years of piping experience in oil & gas/refinery.
• Experience leading piping projects on medium to large scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead piping engineering activities for oil and gas, refinery and petrochemical projects, from FEED through detailed engineering and construction/fabrication.
• Develop and review piping layouts, plot plans, equipment arrangement plans, tie-in drawings and underground piping layouts.
• Oversee piping design for pumps, columns, heat exchangers, tanks, vessels, drums, pipe racks, heaters, reformers and modular units.
• Prepare and review piping deliverables, including isometrics, GA drawings, nozzle orientations, tie-in lists, line lists, piping specialty item datasheets, TBEs and interconnecting P&IDs.
• Coordinate piping design activities with Process, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Electrical and Instrumentation teams.
• Conduct 3D model reviews, identify design discrepancies and coordinate resolution of review comments.
• Prepare and review piping load data for the Civil/Structural team and coordinate piping interfaces with other disciplines.
• Oversee BOM extraction and verification for piping components, supports, insulation and painting requirements.
• Monitor engineering progress, review deliverables and implement quality checks to ensure compliance with project specifications and schedules.
• Resolve technical issues and site queries arising during engineering, construction and fabrication.
• Plan and allocate engineering activities, monitor team performance and provide technical guidance to engineers and designers.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

Strong knowledge of piping layout, piping material specifications (PMS), valve material specifications (VMS), piping support standards and pipe stress analysis principles. Knowledge of specialised piping systems, including steam tracing, jacketed piping, IBR piping, firefighting systems and underground piping. Familiarity with applicable codes, standards and statutory requirements, including ASME, ASTM, API, OISD, PESO, NFPA and PIP. Ability to interpret P&IDs, instrumentation hook-up drawings, structural drawings and other interdisciplinary engineering documents. Understanding of equipment operation, maintenance and accessibility requirements in piping layout design.

Software Proficiency

Experience with 2D/3D piping design tools such as SP3D, PDS, PDMS, CAD Worx and AutoCAD. Familiarity with Navisworks Freedom and Simulate for 3D model reviews.
