Citi is seeking an experienced Lead Java, Spark and Big Data Engineer to architect and deliver large-scale data processing solutions across the enterprise. You will lead design, guide delivery from concept to production, and shape technology strategy in a global technology organization.

The role requires hands-on leadership, deep Java and Spark expertise, and a track record of delivering high-performance systems in financial services.

Competenze

• 13+ years of software engineering experience with enterprise-scale Java development.
• Hands-on proficiency in Core Java (8, 11, or 17+), Apache Spark, distributed computing, and large-scale data processing.
• Working knowledge of microservices architecture and RESTful API design for enterprise platforms.
• Solid grounding in software design patterns, OO design, and scalable architecture practices.
• Skilled in SQL and database performance tuning for high-throughput systems.
• Familiarity with Git, JIRA, Confluence, and CI/CD platforms within modern software development lifecycle processes.
• Ability to lead complex technical initiatives, influence engineering decisions, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

As a Lead Java, Spark and Big Data Engineer, you will architect and deliver large-scale, distributed technology solutions that process massive volumes of data for one of the world's largest financial institutions. Working within Citi's global technology organization, you will shape architecture decisions, build high-performance applications using Java and Apache Spark, and guide software delivery from design through production. This hands-on leadership role offers the opportunity to influence technology strategy and solve complex engineering challenges that support critical business functions worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and development of large-scale, high-performance applications using Java, Apache Spark, and Big Data technologies.
• Shape technical strategy and influence architecture decisions across multiple platforms and applications.
• Drive modernization initiatives that advance cloud-ready architectures, microservices transformation, and engineering automation.
• Design distributed data processing solutions that handle high-volume, high-velocity datasets.
• Build scalable APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions that support enterprise-wide platforms.
• Own end-to-end software delivery from solution design through production deployment and ongoing support.
• Strengthen performance, reliability, and operational stability by implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and rigorous code and design reviews.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with architects, product owners, and global technology partners to advance engineering standards and adopt emerging technologies.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 13+ years of software engineering experience, including deep expertise in enterprise-scale Java application development.
• Hands-on proficiency in Core Java (8, 11, or 17+), Apache Spark, distributed computing, and large-scale data processing.
• Working knowledge of microservices architecture and RESTful API design for enterprise platforms.
• Solid grounding in software design patterns, object-oriented design, and scalable architecture practices.
• Skilled in SQL and database performance tuning for high-throughput systems.
• Familiarity with Git, JIRA, Confluence, and CI/CD platforms within modern software development lifecycle processes.
• Ability to lead complex technical initiatives, influence engineering decisions, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

• Exposure to Big Data ecosystem tools such as Hadoop, Hive, HBase, or Kafka.
• Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and streaming technologies.
• Background in financial services, capital markets, or other regulated industries.
