Job summary

AgileEngine is seeking a Tech Lead who balances hands-on backend development with team leadership. You will guide a squad in Java/Spring Boot back-end and Angular front-end work while steering the project toward domain-driven design and clean RESTful APIs.

You will mentor juniors, uphold engineering standards, and advocate for best practices, architecture, and scalable patterns, with remote-friendly hours and a people-first culture across global teams.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Tech Lead or Squad Lead and mentoring juniors.
• Advanced proficiency in Java (Spring Boot) and Angular with 4+ years of experience.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka.
• Strong OOAD, design patterns, and architectural awareness.
• Deep understanding of domain bounded contexts.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful services.
• Experience with relational databases PostgreSQL/Oracle and JPA/Hibernate.
• Passion for server-side logic, performance, and architecture with good engineering practices.
• Upper-intermediate English level.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Tech Lead who balances hands-on backend development with team leadership. This role combines Java and Spring Boot engineering with Angular frontend work, guiding a transition toward domain-driven design and clean RESTful API architecture. You will mentor junior developers, uphold strong engineering standards, and help the squad execute with consistency.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Act as the Squad Lead, driving the team to execute on deliverables while maintaining high engineering standards.
• Spend a significant portion of your time designing and implementing robust backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and maintain the supporting Angular frontend, ensuring a seamless connection between the UI and your backend logic.
• Lead the transition from traditional database-centric designs toward a domain-driven structure (DDD), ensuring strong domain bounded contexts.
• Architect RESTful APIs that prioritize proper HTTP verbs and clean, scalable patterns over legacy RPC styles.
• Utilize a strong understanding of agile and software development practices to motivate the team, engage junior developers, mentor them, and help them grow.
• Demonstrate the ability to confidently push back and say 'no' to power (be it AI or human) when advocating for best practices and architectural integrity.

MUST HAVES

• Proven experience as a Tech Lead or Squad Lead, with a track record of motivating teams and mentoring junior developers.
• Advanced proficiency in Java (Spring Boot) and a solid working knowledge of Angular, with at least 4 years of experience.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka.
• A strong grasp of Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOA/OOD), software design patterns, and architectural pattern awareness.
• Deep understanding and practical experience with strong domain bounded contexts.
• Deep experience building and consuming RESTful services with a clear understanding of standard API protocols.
• Experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and JPA/Hibernate.
• A passion for server-side logic, performance, and architecture, coupled with good engineering practices.
• Upper-intermediate English level.

NICE TO HAVES

• Experience working with spec-driven development or related (AI-Driven Software Development Life Cycle).
• Previous experience in the Loyalty or Fintech sectors.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and containerization (Docker).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI).
• Experience refactoring legacy structures into modern, domain-driven architectures.
