Job summary

Eaton is seeking a highly motivated Lead Firmware Engineer to lead the design, development, debugging, and industrialization of embedded firmware for intelligent power management products.

You will collaborate across hardware, validation, manufacturing, and product management teams from concept through production release and sustaining support, driving architecture, test frameworks, and robust field performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 9-14 years of total experience with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or ownership role.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, development, and maintenance of embedded firmware for real-time, connected products.
• Develop platform software, device drivers, middleware, and application firmware using C/C++ on RTOS-based systems.
• Define and implement scalable firmware architectures that support multiple product variants and reusable platforms.
• Integrate and troubleshoot communication interfaces and protocols such as CAN, Modbus, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, MQTT, BLE, Wi-Fi, or similar.
• Perform hardware bring-up, board support package development, and low-level hardware debugging.
• Create and maintain firmware test environments, engineering validation setups, and automated test frameworks.
• Use lab instrumentation for root cause analysis and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust product performance.
• Drive firmware quality through code reviews, static analysis, unit testing, integration testing, and CI/CD practices.
• Support industrialization activities including Functional Circuit Test, End-of-Line testing, manufacturing diagnostics, and production ramp-up.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical reviews and engineering best practices.

The role requires strong hands‑on expertise in RTOS‑based embedded systems, platform software development, C programming, communication protocols, and hardware debugging. The successful candidate will work closely with hardware, systems, validation, manufacturing, and product management teams across the product lifecycle, from concept through production release and sustaining support.

What you’ll do:

• Lead architecture, design, development, and maintenance of embedded firmware for real‑time, connected products.
• Develop platform software, device drivers, middleware, and application firmware using C/C++ on RTOS‑based systems.
• Define and implement scalable firmware architectures that support multiple product variants and reusable platforms.

• Drive firmware quality through code reviews, static analysis, unit testing, integration testing, and CI/CD practices.
• Support industrialization activities including Functional Circuit Test, End‑of‑Line testing, manufacturing diagnostics, and production ramp‑up.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical reviews, design discussions, and engineering best practices.
• Support field issue investigations and provide technical leadership for complex customer‑facing problems.
• Experience on Smart breakers, digital circuit protection, electrical distribution, energy management, Residential IoT, and connected power system is preferred.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 9-14 years of total experience with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or ownership role.

Skills:

• RTOS, platform code, C coding
• FCT, EOL, factory diagnostics
• Demonstrated knowledge of Embedded Firmware development with 16 Bit / 32 Bit microcontrollers
• Experience with Agile methodologies and scrum teams is preferable
• Experience with manufacturing and industrialization activities including Functional Circuit Test, End‑of‑Line test development, production diagnostics, and factory software support.
• Knowledge of power management, protection systems, intelligent electrical devices, smart breakers, or related products.
• Familiarity with UL/IEC compliance requirements and functional safety considerations.
• Experience with connected or IoT-enabled products, including cloud-connected embedded devices.
• Exposure to cybersecurity requirements for embedded products.
• Demonstrate technical leadership and ownership across multiple firmware workstreams.
• Drive design excellence, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Build strong cross‑functional partnerships across hardware, validation, manufacturing, and product management teams.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to organizational capability development.
• Champion Eaton engineering processes, product quality, and customer‑centric design.
