HSBC Software Development India seeks an Associate Director, Software Engineering Specialist to lead the engineering of primary trading platforms and services from architecture to delivery and production quality.

You will provide hands-on Java leadership, own the SDLC, CI/CD, automated testing, observability and production support, and mentor engineers while collaborating with global teams. The role emphasizes modernising legacy systems and exploring AI/GenAI opportunities with proper governance.

Qualifications

• Significant experience building enterprise-scale trading or financial technology platforms.
• Strong hands-on Java programming skills with modern software engineering practices.
• Experience with Primary Trading or booking platforms such as Bloomberg TOMS, Calypso, Sentry or comparable Front Office systems.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering Specialist.

In This Role, You Will

• Lead the engineering and evolution of Primary Trading platforms and services, including TOMS, Calypso and Sentry integrations, from architecture through delivery and production quality.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership, stay close to the code and make sound architecture and engineering decisions.
• Design scalable, resilient and high‑performance solutions supporting the end‑to‑end trade lifecycle, from order capture and execution through settlement and reporting.
• Partner with Trading, Sales, Operations, Product Control, Quantitative and global Technology teams to translate workflow requirements into robust solutions.
• Own the platform end to end, including SDLC, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, performance, resilience, security and production support.
• Diagnose complex production and trade‑processing issues across applications, infrastructure, data and business logic.
• Drive clean code, automated testing, code reviews, technical‑debt reduction and simplification of the technology estate.
• Mentor engineers, strengthen the engineering culture in India and collaborate globally to deliver business outcomes.
• Identify responsible AI/ML and GenAI opportunities to improve workflow accuracy, production stability and developer productivity, with appropriate governance and controls.

To Be Successful, You Will

• Bring significant experience building enterprise‑scale trading or financial technology platforms, ideally covering trade capture, workflow and post‑trade processing.
• Demonstrate strong hands‑on Java programming skills and a solid command of modern software engineering practices.
• Have experience with Primary Trading or booking platforms such as Bloomberg TOMS, Calypso, Sentry or comparable Front Office systems.
• Possess strong knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, messaging, databases and high‑performance application design.
• Have proven experience with CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, production engineering and secure, resilient systems.
• Understand Fixed Income and Credit markets, including bonds, CDS/indices, TRS, trade booking, lifecycle events, controls, settlement and P&L.
• Be able to understand complex legacy technology quickly and lead its pragmatic modernisation.
• Communicate confidently with engineers and Front Office and Operations stakeholders, challenge constructively, mentor others and use AI‑assisted engineering tools responsibly.
