Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Bengaluru seeks a senior Lead Engineer – Systems to design, integrate and validate complex rail systems, including signalling and power interfaces. You will manage requirements, coordinate subsystem interfaces and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

The role involves MBSE tools, RAMS analyses, and collaboration across civil, electrical, mechanical and software teams. Hybrid work and relocation assistance are offered as part of a comprehensive rewards package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (Systems/Electrical/Electronics).
• 10–13 years of experience in systems engineering for rail/transport projects.
• Familiarity with CBTC, ETCS, PTC or conventional signalling.
• Experience with DOORS NG and MBSE tools (IBM Rhapsody, Sparx EA).
• Knowledge of EN/ISO rail standards (EN50126/8/9, ISO/IEC 15288).
• INCOSE certification or equivalent.
• RAMS analysis experience.
• Rail cybersecurity understanding.
• Large-scale infra/metro project experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage system requirements, specifications and interfaces.
• Coordinate subsystem integration (signalling, SCADA, telecom, traction) into a cohesive rail system.
• Support system architecture design and standards compliance.
• Conduct system-level analysis, modelling and simulations for validation.
• Participate in design reviews, hazard analysis and risk assessments.
• Support testing/commissioning, IO testing and acceptance.
• Liaise with civil, electrical, mechanical and software teams.
• Ensure traceability of requirements through V-model or similar.
• Prepare technical docs and presentations for stakeholders.
• Assist in resolving technical issues during design, construction and commissioning.

Job Description Overview

The Lead Engineer – Systems plays a critical role in the design, integration, testing, and validation of complex rail systems, including signalling, communications, power, and rolling stock interfaces. This role ensures that all subsystems work together seamlessly to meet safety, performance, and regulatory requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Your Role

• Develop and manage system requirements, specifications, and interface definitions.
• Coordinate integration of subsystems (e.g., signalling, SCADA, telecom, traction power) into a cohesive rail system.
• Support system architecture design and ensure compliance with applicable standards and client requirements.
• Conduct system-level analysis, modelling, and simulations to validate performance and safety.
• Participate in design reviews, hazard analysis, and risk assessments.
• Support testing and commissioning activities, including system integration testing and acceptance.
• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams including civil, electrical, mechanical, and software engineers.
• Ensure traceability of requirements through the V-model or similar systems engineering frameworks.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for stakeholders.
• Assist in resolving technical issues during design, construction, and commissioning phase

About You

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
• 10-13 years of experience in systems engineering, preferably in rail or transportation projects.
• Familiarity with rail systems such as CBTC, ETCS, PTC, or conventional signalling.
• Experience with systems engineering tools such as DOORS NG, MBSE Tools such as IBM Rhapsody and Sparx Enterprise Architect
• Experience with practical application of System Engineering processes and EN 15288 standard - developing, documenting and evidencing systems integration activities across the complete asset / project lifecycle.
• Knowledge of international standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 15288, EN50126/8/9, INCOSE, IEC 61508).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• INCOSE certification or equivalent systems engineering training.
• MBSE Tools such as IBM Rhapsody
• Experience with RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) analysis.
• Understanding of cybersecurity in rail systems.
• Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or metro projects.
