Job summary

Lead Design Quality Engineer – BESS Hardware Engineering

Location: Bangalore, India

We are seeking a Lead Design Quality Engineer to drive engineering quality excellence across BESS hardware programs. This role will be responsible for defining, implementing, and governing design quality processes and metrics to ensure first‑time‑right engineering execution. The position will lead initiatives to establish and monitor key quality indicators such as DFMEA coverage, design escape rate, engineering review compliance (ERC), and overall design maturity. The Lead Design Quality Engineer will work closely with cross‑functional design teams to ensure all design reviews, validations, and quality gates are effectively executed, with structured data capture to enable continuous improvement and reduction of design‑related issues. The role requires a strong combination of engineering expertise, quality mindset, process rigor, and data‑driven decision‑making, with the ability to influence teams and embed quality into the product development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and implement design quality framework across BESS hardware programs
  • Establish and enforce First‑Time‑Right (FTR) principles in engineering execution
  • Own and govern design quality standards, checklists, and release criteria
  • Integrate quality gates into Stage‑Gate / NPI processes
  • Define, track, and drive key metrics: DFMEA coverage & quality, Design Escape Rate, Engineering Review Compliance (ERC), FTR %, and other performance metrics
  • Build dashboards for product/subsystem quality trends and program‑wise performance
  • Establish structured design review framework (Concept, Detailed Design, Release)
  • Ensure all required reviews are conducted and outcomes documented and tracked
  • Drive Engineering Review Compliance (ERC) across teams
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering with 10‑12 years of experience in R&D product development
  • Exposure to hardware engineering environments
  • Strong expertise in design quality and processes
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindsetAbility to drive execution discipline across teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Process‑oriented with a continuous improvement mindset
  • High ownership and accountability
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Fluency in English (excellent verbal and writing skills); international work experience is a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively in remote teams
