Staff Design Evaluation Engineer – Automotive Networking Role Overview

Analog Devices International is seeking an experienced Staff Design Evaluation Engineer to join the Automotive Networking team in Hyderabad, India. In this senior technical role, you will lead the definition and execution of evaluation strategies for FPGA prototypes and automotive networking ASICs, from initial platform bring-up through system‑level validation, characterisation, and release readiness. You will combine hands‑on laboratory expertise with strong software development, test automation, data analysis, and technical leadership skills to deliver robust, repeatable, and high‑quality evaluation solutions. You will work closely with design, verification, applications, systems, software, and product engineering teams to identify technical risks, resolve complex issues, and ensure that silicon and supporting platforms meet product and system requirements. As a Staff Engineer, you will provide technical direction, mentor engineers, and drive improvements in evaluation methodologies, tools, and laboratory practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and lead comprehensive evaluation strategies, test plans, coverage goals, methodologies, and release criteria for FPGA prototypes and automotive networking ASICs.
• Translate product, architecture, and system requirements into measurable laboratory tests, including functional, performance, interoperability, robustness, and corner‑case evaluation.
• Architect, develop, bring up, and maintain hardware and software evaluation platforms, test fixtures, reference systems, and supporting infrastructure.
• Develop modular, maintainable test and automation software in C and Python, including instrument control, data acquisition, regression execution, result processing, and report generation.
• Execute and analyse complex silicon and FPGA test cases; debug failures across hardware, firmware, software, interfaces, and system boundaries.
• Perform electrical and functional measurements using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, protocol analysers, signal generators, power supplies, and other laboratory equipment.
• Lead structured root‑cause investigations, clearly document findings, and work with cross‑functional teams to drive issues to resolution.
• Evaluate Automotive Ethernet T1S and related networking functionality, including link behaviour, data‑path performance, timing, error handling, diagnostics, and interoperability.
• Develop system‑level hardware, embedded software, scripts, user guides, application examples, test procedures, and technical reports that enable internal and external product evaluation.
• Review evaluation results, identify coverage gaps and technical risks, and communicate evidence‑based recommendations to engineering and programme stakeholders.
• Drive continuous improvement in test architecture, automation, data quality, traceability, repeatability, and laboratory efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring, lead design and code reviews, and contribute to planning, estimation, and prioritisation activities.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Typically seven or more years of relevant experience in design evaluation, silicon validation, product engineering, systems engineering, or a comparable role.
• Demonstrated experience evaluating FPGA prototypes and performing bench validation or characterisation of ASICs.
• Strong proficiency in C and Python, with experience developing reliable test, automation, or embedded software.
• Strong knowledge of embedded systems, digital hardware, laboratory measurement techniques, and hardware/software integration.
• Proven ability to diagnose complex problems using structured debugging, critical thinking, root‑cause analysis, and evidence‑based decision‑making.
• Experience capturing, processing, interpreting, and presenting technical data, with a strong focus on accuracy, repeatability, and traceability.
• Working knowledge of Ethernet and networking concepts, together with experience using serial interfaces such as SPI, I²C, and UART.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear technical reports and present complex findings to varied audiences.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, collaboration, ownership, and the ability to influence outcomes across cross‑functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

• Experience with automotive Ethernet technologies, including 10BASE-T1S, single‑pair Ethernet, MAC-PHY devices, Physical Layer Collision Avoidance, or related in‑vehicle networking solutions.
• Familiarity with automotive networking architectures, zonal systems, software‑defined vehicles, and relevant industry standards.
• Experience with Ethernet protocol analysis, network traffic generation, performance measurement, interoperability testing, or fault injection.
• Experience developing embedded firmware for microcontrollers and integrating host‑side software with evaluation hardware.
• Experience with audio and video interfaces or data paths, including PDM and RGB8.
• Familiarity with source control, continuous integration, automated regression frameworks, requirements traceability, and issue‑tracking systems.
• Experience mentoring engineers, leading technical reviews, or coordinating evaluation activities across multiple sites or disciplines.
