Role Summary

This Lead Data Scientist role is responsible for leading and managing a team of 6-10 data scientists to deliver high quality data science and analytics solutions to Consumer Trade Partners across multiple geographies. As a commercially savvy Lead Data Scientist, you will lead your team on client briefs whilst collaborating closely with consultants and Trade Partner stakeholders. You'll bring fresh ideas and innovative thinking to push the boundaries of what's possible with consumer analytics. You will drive AI excellence and innovation whilst maintaining relentless focus on delivery excellence. You will lead team performance through technical leadership, establish quality standards, manage capability development, and deliver measurable commercial outcomes for major Trade Partners.

Key responsibilities

• Advance AI integration and scale AI impact across team analytical projects to enhance capabilities, efficiency and solution quality
• Spearhead development of cutting-edge analytical methodologies and accelerators for adoption by Global Consumer teams

Lead and manage team of 6-10 data scientists with accountability for performance management, capability development and career progression

• Drive accountability for assigned market(s) delivery, stakeholder relationships and commercial outcomes across multiple geographies
• Lead review and quality assurance of complex projects to ensure consistency with Quantium standards
• Establish and enforce quality frameworks, documentation standards and delivery processes for team consistency
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with Trade Partner stakeholders to understand business needs and delivery expectations Transform Trade Partner questions into analytical solutions through effective scoping and solution design
• Coordinate project delivery across multiple geographies including resource allocation and dependency management
• Partner effectively with consultants and wiqRetail teams to drive integrated solutions
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to direct reports through structured development
• Support recruitment, interviewing and candidate assessment for team expansion
• Lead knowledge sharing initiatives and participate in learning forums with wider Consumer team

Experience and education required

• Analytics and insights background with approximately 7+ years' experience in a highly technical analytics environment
• Currently at Lead Analyst level or equivalent with demonstrated analytics and insights expertise
• Strong expertise in BigQuery SQL and data visualisation tools
• Proven experience leading teams of analysts and managing analytical deliverables
• Ability to interpret data and derive actionable insights that drive measurable business value
• Strong communication skills, both written (story-telling, slide decks) and verbal
• Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments
• Experience transforming client/stakeholder questions into analytical solutions through project scoping and solution design
• Proven experience supervising the work of others as a senior team member, project manager or team leader
• Demonstrated success managing stakeholders (internal and external) and delivering against projects in dynamic, deadline-driven environments
• Experience and genuine interest in people management, mentoring and team development
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain quality standards, processes and documentation frameworks
• Tertiary qualifications in engineering, mathematics, actuarial studies, statistics, physics or a related analytical discipline

Value-Add Experience

• Hands-on experience with modern AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, and other emerging platforms) and understanding of business applications AI/ML implementation experience with practical business applications and demonstrated commercial results
• Python and R expertise with hands-on implementation in business environments
• Experience with FMCG/CPG or Retail industry and understanding of Trade Partner/consumer brand challenges
• Experience working in consulting environment with client-facing delivery and stakeholder management
• Methodology development and accelerator creation experience for broader team adoption
• Process improvement and automation background focused on efficiency enhancement and innovation
• Market or category leadership experience with accountability for specific geographic regions or customer segments
