Job summary

CittaAI is seeking a Junior AI Backend Engineer to build backend services and agent pipelines that make LLM outputs reliable, structured, and safe for production.

You will design REST APIs with FastAPI, orchestrate LangChain pipelines, and work with Azure OpenAI, Blob Storage, and Container Apps to deliver robust systems. This role emphasizes clean code, collaboration, and measurable impact in a remote/hybrid setup.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of Python development with production deployment.
• Strong async Python and REST API design skills.
• Hands-on experience with LangChain or similar orchestration library.
• Working knowledge of Azure services including OpenAI, Blob Storage, App Service or Container Apps.
• Understanding of output validation and retry logic in production.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain FastAPI services exposing agent capabilities as clean, versioned APIs.
• Build LangChain orchestration pipelines with structured I/O contracts, retry logic, and fallback handling.

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE

As a Junior AI / Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for building the backend services and agent pipelines that make LLM outputs reliable, structured, and safe to use in production. Your work will sit at the foundation of every agent capability we ship.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• API Development: Design and maintain FastAPI services that expose agent capabilities as clean, versioned APIs.
• Agent Pipelines: Build LangChain orchestration pipelines with structured I/O contracts, retry logic, and fallback handling.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Work with Azure infrastructure including Azure OpenAI Service, Blob Storage, and Container Apps.
• Output Reliability: Implement output validation and schema enforcement layers that make LLM responses trustworthy enough for production use.
• Codebase Contribution: Write code that your teammates can read, review, and build on without friction.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

Required

• 1-3 years of Python development with at least one production deployment behind you.
• Solid grasp of async Python and REST API design, with the debugging instincts to match.
• Hands‑on experience with LangChain or a comparable LLM orchestration library.
• Working knowledge of Azure: OpenAI Service, Blob Storage, and App Service or Container Apps.
• You understand why output validation, structured schemas, and retry logic matter in production — not just that they exist.
• Comfortable working in a shared codebase with other engineers.

Preferred

• Pydantic for structured output parsing and schema validation.
• Experience with RAG pipelines or document ingestion workflows.
• Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
• Any prior work building multi‑step or tool‑using LLM agents.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

We are not looking for someone who knows everything. We are looking for someone who ships, learns, and communicates clearly. A strong candidate will be able to show:

• You have built a REST API that other services depend on.
• You have integrated an external API and handled its failure modes, not just the happy path.
• You can explain a design decision, defend it under pushback, and revise it when shown a better argument.

OUT OF SCOPE FOR THIS ROLE

• Prompt engineering as the primary responsibility.
• Frontend or UI development.
• Machine learning model training or fine‑tuning.
• Autonomous deployment to production environments without engineer review.
