Purpose of the role: To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry‑aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
- Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimised for performance.
- Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participation in code reviews, and promotion of a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Staying informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contributing to the organisation’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

- Experience with managing complex technology programmes with strong delivery discipline, risk management, and dependency handling.
- Establishing engineering best practices for code quality, performance, security, reliability, and observability.
- Platform modernisation, legacy transformation, and technical debt reduction at enterprise scale.
- DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and operational excellence practices to improve time‑to‑market.
- Modern technology stacks, including microservices, APIs, and event‑driven architectures.
- Proven Java (8+) expertise including multithreading, advanced collections, concurrency, and performance‑oriented programming.
- Spring Framework & Spring Boot – building robust backend services, REST APIs, and integration components.
- Hibernate/JPA – ORM, query tuning, caching, and high‑volume data access patterns.
- SQL & PL/SQL proficiency – ability to develop stored procedures, packages, triggers, complex queries, and performance optimisation.
- Message‑based integration using MQ – including producers/consumers, DLQ handling, and reliable message delivery patterns.
- Docker/containerisation exposure, especially for Spring Boot container builds.
- Event streaming technologies – Kafka or similar for real‑time data processing.
- CI/CD tooling – Jenkins & Maven for building pipelines, release automation, and DevOps alignment.
- Unix/Linux expertise – shell scripting, environment debugging, file handling, permissions.
- Unit testing & build/release engineering – ensuring quality, automation, and regression‑safe change deployment.
