Job summary

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Java Security Lead Software Engineer, Vice President level, to manage and develop a Java application in a Cyber Data Risk & Resilience team. You will work on Java, Spring Boot, microservices, security, authentication, and LDAP, across squad tasks and on-call rotation.

You will lead design discussions, code reviews, and production changes, while collaborating with Technology teams to enhance observability and integrate new tools within the Morgan Stanley ecosystem.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on Java software development experience.
• Strong understanding of microservices and cloud-native design patterns.
• Proficiency with Spring/Spring Security and secure coding practices.
• Experience in debugging, observability, and production-grade delivery.

Responsibilities

Java Security Lead Software Engineer_ Vice President _Software EngineeringWe’re seeking someone to join our Cyber Data Risk & Resilience tech team as a Principal Java Engineer, in Cyber Technology to manage, develop and design the Java Application with good exposure on Java, springboot, microservices, Security, HTTP, Authentication, LDAP and system designing.The Cybersecurity organization's mission is to create an agile, adaptable organization with the skills and expertise needed to defend against increasingly sophisticated adversaries. This is a Principal Software Engineer position at Vice President Level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintains software solutions that support business needs.Since 1935, Morgan Stanley is known as a global leader in financial services, always evolving and innovating to better serve our clients and our communities in more than 40 countries around the world.What you’ll do in the role:You will maintain, Develop, test, support, and enhance a legacy Java-based application running in production.Within squad you will handle various development, engineering, and operational tasks, ranging from bug fixes, automation, DevOps tasks, and supporting on-call rotation.Working with the squad & wider Technology stakeholders, you will support the continuous improvement of our services through development, automation, and effective observability solutions.Enforce adherence to architectural standards/principles, global product-specific guidelines, usability design standards, etc.Working with Technology teams, you will develop new integrations, plugins, and onboard new tools to support business needs and integrate with the Morgan Stanley ecosystem.Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and various Agile ceremonies to help us produce the best product possible.You will deliver knowledge sharing and participate in cross-pollination of good practices and standards across squad & Data Protection Services department, providing documentation and presentations.What you’ll bring to the role:10+ years of hands-on experience with Java, Springboot, Microservices.Solid understanding of HTTP/REST, TLS/SSL, authentication & authorization concepts.Strong object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts to design robust and scalable software solutions.Leverage expertise in Spring and Spring Security to build secure and efficient applications.Strong data security principles to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with industry standards.Experience in GenAI/Agentic AI/LLMs will be added advantage.Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across logs, thread dumps, and network traces.Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) with the ability to convey outcomes to a wide audience.Experience with version control systems such as Git.Knowledge of LDAP, JDBC, relational databases (Sybase, Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL).Drive architecture and design decisions; review critical code, designs, and production changes.Coach engineers through technical challenges, production incidents, and career progression.Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.Understanding Perl Programming.Experience with observability tooling (Splunk, ELK, Grafana, Prometheus).Experience with cybersecurity practices, such as encryption at rest and in transit, secret management, and public key infrastructure.Java certifications like OCJP, Java Web Component DeveloperAt least 6 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM MORGAN STANLEY:At Morgan Stanley, we raise, manage and allocate capital for our clients – helping them reach their goals.
