Job summary

Acme Services seeks a Senior Backend Architect to lead the backend engineering strategy for Fundmaster Modernization in Pune, steering legacy-to-Java service transformation with hands-on coding, performance tuning, mentoring, release readiness and production ownership.

You will set API standards, choose synchronous/asynchronous/reactive patterns, drive reviews, and ensure on-time delivery while maintaining reliability and security across enterprise-grade systems.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and support of Java services.
• Define standards for APIs, service boundaries, coding, secure development, automated testing, logging, and operational readiness.
• Select appropriate synchronous, asynchronous, and reactive patterns for workloads.
• Lead design and code reviews and ensure non-functional requirements are addressed.
• Diagnose memory leaks, API latency, and service scalability issues.

Job description

Lead the backend engineering strategy for Fundmaster Modernization, guiding the transformation of complex legacy capabilities into scalable, resilient, and supportable Java services. This role combines architecture leadership with hands-on development, performance engineering, mentoring, release readiness, and production ownership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and support of enterprise-grade Java services.
• Define standards for APIs, service boundaries, coding, secure development, automated testing, logging, exception handling, and operational readiness.
• Select appropriate synchronous, asynchronous, and reactive patterns for business-processing workloads.
• Lead design and code reviews and ensure non-functional requirements for performance, scalability, reliability, resilience, security, and observability are addressed.
• Diagnose memory leaks, thread contention, connection-pool exhaustion, high CPU, API latency, slow SQL, and service scalability issues.
• Analyze heap dumps, thread dumps, GC logs, JVM metrics, database plans, and connection-pool behavior.
• Lead root-cause analysis for critical incidents and drive sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
• Mentor engineers and communicate delivery progress, risks, dependencies, impact, mitigation, and decisions to stakeholders and management.

Required Technical Skills

• Advanced Core Java and Java 8 through Java 17.
• Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring WebFlux, Spring JDBC, Spring AOP, and CompletableFuture.
• Multithreading, concurrency, JVM internals, asynchronous and reactive programming.
• REST APIs, microservices, API lifecycle, integration patterns, and secure coding.
• JUnit, Mockito, automated integration testing, GitHub, pull requests, and CI/CD.
• Dynatrace; exposure to Splunk, AppDynamics, Grafana, or Prometheus.
• Linux/Unix, Apache Tomcat, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-platform concepts.

Strong SQL and Data Capabilities

Strong hands-on SQL capability is mandatory, including complex joins, subqueries, CTEs, window functions, stored procedures, transaction handling, indexing, execution-plan analysis, query optimization, data reconciliation, and troubleshooting of high-volume relational workloads. The candidate must be able to review data models and guide database performance decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in financial services, investment operations, accounting, reconciliation, or asset servicing.
• Experience modernizing legacy or mission-critical enterprise applications.
• Exposure to AS400/IBM i and DB2.
• Azure or AWS experience; Docker and Kubernetes exposure.
