Citigroup Inc. is hiring an Applications Development Intermediate Programmer Analyst in Chennai. The role contributes to application systems analysis and programming, working with the Technology team to implement new or revised systems for business needs.

The candidate will participate in feasibility studies, design, testing, and implementation, ensuring security and compliance, while collaborating with users and technology groups to deliver robust solutions.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Demonstrated solid experience in application development with robust, scalable solutions.
• Expert-level proficiency in Core Java, Java EE, Spring Boot, Spring Microservices, and RESTful APIs.
• Proven expertise in secure API design and high-throughput messaging (Kafka, Solace).
• Experience in architectural design with focus on scalability, availability, resilience, and data consistency.
• Strong ability to write clean, well-documented code and perform debugging/performance optimization.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Enterprise.

Responsibilities

• Conduct feasibility studies, time/cost estimates, IT planning, risk analysis, and meet business needs.
• Monitor and control all phases of development: analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation with user support.
• Analyze problems, evaluate processes and industry standards, and provide evaluative judgement.
• Develop security measures in post-implementation analysis to ensure design integrity.
• Consult with users and tech groups on issues and implement advanced programming solutions.
• Define operating standards and processes, and ensure adherence.
• Operate with limited supervision and exercise independence and judgement.
• Escalate, manage and report control issues with transparency while safeguarding Citi's reputation.

Job description

The Applications Development Intermediate Programmer Analyst is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct tasks related to feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, IT planning, risk technology, applications development, model development, and establish and implement new or revised application systems and programs to meet specific business needs or user areas
• Monitor and control all phases of development process and analysis, design, construction, testing, and implementation as well as provide user and operational support on applications to business users
• Utilize in-depth specialty knowledge of applications development to analyze complex problems/issues, provide evaluation of business process, system process, and industry standards, and make evaluative judgement
• Recommend and develop security measures in post implementation analysis of business usage to ensure successful system design and functionality
• Consult with users/clients and other technology groups on issues, recommend advanced programming solutions, and install and assist customer exposure systems
• Ensure essential procedures are followed and help define operating standard’s and processes
• Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
• Can exercise independence of judgement and autonomy.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

• 5-8 years in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Demonstrated solid experience in application development, with a proven history of delivering robust, scalable, and high-performance solutions.
• Expert-level proficiency in modern Java technologies, including Core Java, Java EE, Spring Boot, Spring Microservices, and RESTful API design.
• Proven expertise in designing and developing secure and efficient APIs and Web Services utilizing REST protocols.
• Extensive experience in architectural design and development of integrated enterprise-grade solutions, with a strong emphasis on non-functional requirements such as scalability, availability, resilience, and data consistency.
• Exceptional ability to write clean, efficient, and well-documented code (Core Java, J2EE, Collections, Multithreading), coupled with advanced debugging and performance optimization skills.
• Strong experience in defining and implementing comprehensive testing strategies, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, ensuring high test coverage and software quality.
• Hands-on experience with high-throughput messaging platforms, such as Solace, Kafka, or other industry-standard message brokers.
• In-depth understanding and practical application of security principles, including Authentication, Authorization, encryption, and various security protocols.
• Solid practical experience with modern code versioning systems, specifically GitHub Enterprise.
• Extensive experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and automation tools, including hands-on experience in deploying and managing applications within these frameworks.
• Familiarity with leading cloud platforms and proficiency in containerization technologies like Docker, along with orchestration tools such as Kubernetes. Experience with AWS ECS and Red Hat OpenShift is highly advantageous.
• Demonstrated interest or experience in exploring, integrating, and leveraging AI-powered tools and solutions to enhance application development workflows.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, complemented by strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical decision-making abilities.
