Job summary

Citi is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain high‑throughput microservices using Java (17/21) and Spring Boot. You will build robust RESTful APIs, event-driven systems, and data persistence layers with Oracle and MongoDB, while driving software quality through TDD/BDD and CI/CD practices.

The role emphasizes collaboration in Agile teams, production support, and leadership of infrastructure initiatives within a cloud-native environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 4–8 years in an Apps Development role.
• Experience designing high-throughput microservices.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs and OpenAPI specifications.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-throughput microservices using Java Spring Boot.
• Build robust RESTful APIs and event-driven interfaces.
• Design asynchronous workflows and event streaming pipelines (Kafka/JMS).

Job description

• Microservices Development: Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-throughput, low-latency microservices using Java (17/21), Spring Boot, and cloud-native frameworks.
• API Architecture: Build and document robust RESTful APIs and event-driven interfaces adhering to enterprise API standards, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications,
• Event-Driven & Messaging Systems: Design asynchronous workflows and event streaming pipelines using Apache Kafka or JMS.
• Database & Data Management: Implement efficient data persistence layers using relational databases ( Oracle) and NoSQL stores (MongoDB), ensuring optimized indexing, query execution, and transactional integrity.

Design & Development

• Microservices Development: Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain high-throughput, low-latency microservices using Java (17/21), Spring Boot, and cloud-native frameworks.
• API Architecture: Build and document robust RESTful APIs and event-driven interfaces adhering to enterprise API standards, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications,
• Event-Driven & Messaging Systems: Design asynchronous workflows and event streaming pipelines using Apache Kafka or JMS.
• Database & Data Management: Implement efficient data persistence layers using relational databases ( Oracle) and NoSQL stores (MongoDB), ensuring optimized indexing, query execution, and transactional integrity.

Engineering Excellence & DevOps

• Code Quality & Best Practices: Enforce clean code principles, SOLID design patterns, domain-driven design (DDD), and test-driven development (TDD/BDD).
• Automated Testing: Author comprehensive unit, integration, and contract tests utilizing JUnit 5, Mockito maintaining high automated test coverage (>85%).
• CI/CD & Cloud Integration: Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines and containerize services using Docker and Kubernetes / OpenShift.
• Observability & Reliability: Integrate logging, metrics, and tracing instrumentation into microservices using frameworks such as OpenTelemetry, Micrometer, Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk/ELK.

Collaboration & Leadership

• Agile Participation: Actively participate in Scrum/Kanban ceremonies (sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, retrospectives).
• Production Support & Incident Management: Partner with Level 3 (L3) support teams for triage, root-cause analysis (RCA), and remediation of critical production incidents during release rollouts and business hours.
• 4-8 years in an Apps Development role. Demonstrated execution capabilities.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills; Data driven and results-oriented
• Experience in running high traffic, distributed, cloud based services
• Experience in affecting large culture change
• Experience leading infrastructure programs
• Skilled at working with third party service providers
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
