Job description

Overview

The Middle India Development and Advancement Strategy (MIDAS) is a project initiated by The Convergence Foundation (TCF). The initiative focuses on accelerating economic growth in underdeveloped rural districts across India by creating scalable models to improve prosperity.

As a first step, MIDAS has chosen Deoria, a district in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, as its pilot site. Over the next 3-4 years, the goal is to develop and test a playbook for driving district-level growth in Middle India that can later be replicated in similar regions.

To implement this, TCF is partnering with the Deoria Development Alliance, a local initiative led by Member of Parliament Shri Shashank Mani, which aims to increase the districts per capita growth rate to ~10% annually over the next decade. The initiative on the ground is branded as Amrit Prayas.

Role Overview

The Intern will support the Project Management Unit (PMU) in its mission to anchor investments and remove bottlenecks for regional development. This role sits at the intersection of economic development and public systems reform.

The Intern will specifically support the Investment Attraction workstreams, focusing on:

Healthcare & Education Infrastructure: Promoting investments in school chains, K-12 operators, and healthcare facilities.

Tourism & Services: Identifying opportunities to boost regional prosperity through service-sector growth.

Human Capital: Attracting partners, vocational training providers, and CSR skilling programs to build a district-level talent pipeline.

Roles and Responsibilities

Investor Research: Identify and map a pipeline of potential partners, including school chains, vocational institutes, hospital groups, and tourism developers.

Outreach Support: Assist in drafting pitch decks, policy briefs, and investment proposals to present Deoria as an emerging hub for learning and services.

Stakeholder Engagement: Support meetings and visits with government officials, private sector stakeholders, and civil society.

Data & Insights: Help set up systems to track progress against district-level outcomes like job creation and infrastructure development.

Operational Support: Assist in facilitating investor needs such as land/site visits, documentation, and government approvals.

Skills and Experience Required

Educational Background: Currently pursuing or recently graduated from a top-tier institution in Public Policy, Economics, Management, or Development Studies.

Analytical Skills: Comfort with data, reports, and creating professional decks.

Communication: Strong ability to build trust-based relationships and communicate impact to diverse audiences.

Adaptability: High degree of ownership and the resilience to navigate dynamic contexts and fast-evolving priorities.

Location: Willingness to be based in Delhi, with need-based travel to Deoria.

Reporting

The intern will report to the Program Manager/ Team Lead for Investments at MIDAS, The Convergence Foundation.

Compensation

The Convergence Foundation recognizes that the right candidate will have a significant impact on the success of the organization and is prepared to offer an attractive compensation package for the non-profit sector, commensurate with experience.
