Overview

Job Description: Huntsman Corporation is now looking for a dynamic individual as an Intellectual Property Information Scientist.

The purpose of Global Research, part of Global Technology & Innovation, is to rapidly develop high-value, sustainable polyurethane solutions that solve critical customer problems and generate near-term revenue while building a robust innovation pipeline for the future.

This position will be based in Mumbai, India.

Responsibilities

• Perform searches, initial evaluations and recommendations related to IP, including patentability, freedom to operate, and prior art; maintain PU watch on competitors’ patent publications; and manage IP reviews and action trackers for Global Research (GR), Global Technology & Innovation (GT&I) and IP teams.
• Ensure full compliance with safety, health, and environmental guidelines according to site and company standards in all areas of responsibility. Promote safety behaviour according to the guidelines.
• Conduct research and analysis on patent and scientific information including prior art, patentability, and freedom to operate searches; prepare well-structured datasets and clear reports based on findings.
• Track R&D trends and assess competitor IP landscapes; prepare well-structured datasets and clear reports based on findings.
• Collaborate with GR, GT&I and IP teams to design and implement effective search strategies that uncover relevant scientific and IP data, supporting key research inquiries.
• Leverage analytical insights to identify new opportunities and contribute to idea generation, the development of project pipeline, and advancement of innovation initiatives.
• Support knowledge management by organizing and maintaining access to patent and scientific publications and competitor data.
• Stay current with developments in knowledge management systems and AI tools, evaluate their effectiveness, and curate relevant documentation.
• Maintain and optimize internal systems for patent and scientific information, and handle official documentation in communications with IP attorneys.
• Implement and regularly update monitoring processes to ensure search for relevant scientific and IP documentation aligns with evolving needs of the project portfolio.

Qualifications

• Doctorate (Ph.D.), ideally in Chemistry, Materials Science or a related field, with a proven track record as an information scientist or in a similar role.
• At least 5 years of experience, ideally within a chemical R&D or manufacturing environment, with a preference for the polyurethane industry.
• Proficiency in industry-leading systems such as Orbit Intelligence, Espacenet, PubMed, ScienceDirect, or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of how AI can enhance data analysis and information retrieval is highly desirable.
• Solid understanding of patent processes and legislation, or keen interest in gaining expertise in this area.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
