Job summary

eBay is seeking a proactive professional to join the Americas Indirect Tax team. You will own escalated tax issues, partnering with GCX, Product, and Engineering to resolve taxability questions and improve customer experiences.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of U.S. sales and use taxes, Canadian GST, and global VAT systems.
• Experience with Vertex or other tax engines is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Information Systems, or Accounting; advanced degree a plus.
• Ability to work independently within a global tax team; strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Own escalated sales tax refunds related to taxability issues and buyer exemptions.
• Collaborate with Customer Service to resolve sales/VAT inquiries.
• Investigate root causes for incorrect taxability with the Tax Product team and provide solutions.
• Review Monthly Vertex Data patches prior to application.
• Support US Indirect Tax Team with data analysis and documentation.
• Assist with special projects or duties as assigned.
• Conduct ad-hoc tax technical research.
• Collaborate to design scalable indirect tax processes.

Job Description

• Ownership and main point of contact for escalated sales tax refunds related to taxability issues and buyer exemptions
• Collaborate with customer service & to resolve customer-initiated sales/VAT tax inquiries
• Engage with the Tax Product team to investigate root causes for incorrect application of taxability and provide recommendations solutions in collaboration with the broader IDT team.
• Review Monthly Vertex Data patches prior to application.
• Assist US-based Indirect Tax Team in with audit support by gathering and analyzing large data sets and other support documentation
• Assist US-based Indirect Tax Team with other special projects or miscellaneous duties as assigned
• Perform ad-hoc tax technical research
• Collaborate with the indirect tax team & finance innovation & transformation (FIT) team to identify opportunities to design and implement scalable solutions to streamline indirect tax processes.

Requirements

• Knowledge of U.S. sales & use taxes, Canadian GST and additional global VAT systems
• Experience with Vertex and/or other tax engines a plus
• Capable of working independently while acting as part of a global tax team
• Strong issue identification and mitigation skills
• Ability to articulate complex concepts in a concise manner both written and verbally
• Proficiency with Excel, Google Suite, and tax research tools
• Experience with ChatGPT, Gemini, Tableau, Alteryx and other data wrangling tools a plus

Basic Qualifications

• 1-3 years of related corporate finance and/or accounting experience
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with emphasis in Finance, Information Systems, or Accounting. Advanced degree a plus
• Fluent in English – other languages helpful
