Job summary

Avalara, Inc. seeks a senior technical architect to lead end-to-end technical implementations and complex integrations for mid-market and enterprise customers adopting Avalara's cloud compliance platform.

You will translate intricate business models and global tax requirements into robust, scalable configurations, champion an AI-first onboarding approach, and mentor consultants while driving reusable assets and automation frameworks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/Engineering/IT/BCA/MCA.
• 5–8 years in technical implementation, systems integration, or technical consulting within B2B SaaS/enterprise software.
• Experience configuring, integrating and troubleshooting ERP/CRM/eCommerce platforms (NetSuite, Dynamics 365, SAP, Salesforce, etc.).
• Strong APIs, JSON/XML payloads, data transformation tools, middleware/iPaaS, and data analysis (SQL, Excel, scripting).
• Proven autonomous project leadership across multiple enterprise customer implementations.

Responsibilities

• Lead advanced solution architecture and integration workflows across ERP, CRM, eCommerce, and Billing systems.
• Evaluate processes, nexus footprints, cross-border rules, and enterprise data schemas for secure integrations.
• Design and execute end-to-end testing, validate API payloads, and resolve configuration discrepancies before production cutover.
• Serve as technical escalation lead for complex integration challenges and collaborate with Engineering/Product to drive improvements.
• Conduct technical discovery sessions and executive architecture reviews; deliver administrator training.

What You'll Do

• Serve as a senior technical authority and trusted advisor leading end-to-end technical implementations, complex solution architectures, and multi-system integrations for mid-market and enterprise customers adopting Avalara's cloud compliance platform.
• Translate intricate customer business models, global tax compliance requirements, and high-volume transactional workflows into robust, scalable, and resilient technical configurations.
• Champion an AI-first approach to accelerate customer onboarding, reduce project cycle times, and optimize time-to-first-transaction.
• Partner cross-functionally with customer IT, finance leadership, developers, and Avalara internal teams to navigate complex integration landscapes and mitigate cutover risks.
• Elevate organizational delivery excellence by setting technical benchmarks, mentoring team members, and establishing reusable technical assets and automation frameworks.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

• Lead advanced solution architecture, custom integration workflows, and tax rule mappings across enterprise applications including ERP, CRM, eCommerce, and Billing systems.
• Evaluate multifaceted business processes, multi-jurisdiction nexus footprints, cross-border taxability rules, and enterprise data schemas to design secure and scalable integrations.
• Design and execute comprehensive end-to-end testing strategies, validate complex API payloads, reconcile high-volume transaction calculations, and resolve nuanced configuration discrepancies prior to production cutover.
• Serve as the technical escalation lead for high-complexity integration challenges, troubleshooting root causes and partnering with Engineering and Product to resolve blockers and influence roadmap improvements.
• Conduct technical discovery sessions, executive-level architecture reviews, and deliver structured administrator and technical training to empower client teams.
• Coach and mentor junior consultants on integration best practices, troubleshooting methodologies, and customer management while conducting peer configuration reviews.
• Pioneer and champion AI-driven tools, reusable integration templates, diagnostic scripts, and automated test workflows to drive operational scale across the global consulting practice.
• Take full ownership of implementation project milestones, ensuring high-quality go-lives with robust test coverage and zero critical post-launch defects.

What You'll Need to be Successful

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, BCA, MCA, or related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
• Experience: 5–8 years of hands-on experience in technical implementation, systems integration, or technical consulting within B2B SaaS or enterprise software environments.
• Enterprise Systems & ERP Expertise: Proven track record of configuring, integrating, and troubleshooting leading enterprise applications (e.g., NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, Salesforce, Sage Intacct, Workday, or major eCommerce platforms).
• Technical & Integration Skills: Strong expertise in APIs, JSON/XML payloads, data transformation tools, middleware/iPaaS platforms, and advanced data analysis (SQL, Excel, or scripting).
• Autonomous Project Leadership: Demonstrated ability to independently manage a portfolio of simultaneous enterprise customer implementations in a fast-paced environment.
• Communication & Stakeholder Management: Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills, with proven ability to lead technical workshops and influence customer architects, developers, and executive stakeholders.
• Applied AI Fluency: Practical experience utilizing generative AI tools to accelerate technical discovery, troubleshooting, script generation, and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Tax & Compliance Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with transaction tax principles (US Sales & Use Tax, VAT/GST, e-Invoicing) or hands-on experience with automated tax engines
• Consulting Background: Prior experience working within technology consulting firms or enterprise Professional Services organizations.
• Architecture & Scripting Tools: Familiarity with cloud architectures, scripting languages (Python, JavaScript/Node.js), and API testing suites (Postman, SoapUI).
• Delivery Methodologies: Experience with Agile/Scrum implementation methodologies, PSA tools, and collaborative project management platforms.
