IBM Storage L3 Administrator / Engineer

The IBM Storage L3 Administrator is responsible for advanced management, troubleshooting, and optimization of enterprise storage systems. This includes IBM SAN/NAS solutions, IBM Spectrum Storage, DS Series, FlashSystem, and related technologies. The role requires deep expertise in IBM storage platforms, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to resolve complex issues independently while ensuring high availability, performance, and data security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide L3 support for escalated incidents across IBM storage environments.
  • Manage and maintain IBM SAN/NAS systems, DS Series, FlashSystem, and Spectrum Storage solutions.
  • Perform storage provisioning, zoning, LUN management, and replication setup.
  • Conduct performance tuning, capacity planning, and optimization of storage infrastructure.
  • Implement backup, disaster recovery, and high‑availability solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues related to storage connectivity, multipathing, and clustering.
  • Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or Ansible.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, database, and application teams to ensure seamless storage operations.
  • Lead root cause analysis for critical incidents and document resolutions.
  • Maintain knowledge base and documentation for configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 7–12 years of experience in enterprise storage administration with strong L3 expertise.
  • Hands‑on experience with IBM DS Series, FlashSystem, Spectrum Virtualize, SAN Volume Controller (SVC).
  • Strong knowledge of storage protocols (FC, iSCSI, NFS, CIFS/SMB).
  • Expertise in storage replication, snapshots, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Experience with storage monitoring tools (IBM Storage Insights, Spectrum Control, Nagios, SolarWinds).
  • Familiarity with cloud storage integrations (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation for storage operations.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, multipathing, and server integration.
  • Ability to lead critical incident resolution and mentor junior administrators.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications: IBM Certified Specialist – Storage Solutions, IBM Spectrum Storage certifications.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM) integrated with IBM storage.
  • Exposure to software‑defined storage (SDS) and hybrid cloud storage.
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes for incident, problem, and change management.
