The HV Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of all High Voltage (HV) electrical infrastructure at the Aland Plant, including the 450 MVA substation, transmission switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and associated HV equipment. This role ensures compliance with utility requirements and grid connection obligations.
2.KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the operation, maintenance, and testing of the 450 MVA substation and associated HV electrical infrastructure
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for HV equipment
- Ensure all HV switching operations are performed safely in accordance with approved switching procedures and safety rules
- Coordinate with the national grid / RLDC for outage planning, fault response, and dispatch compliance
- Supervise HV technicians and electrical maintenance staff; manage shift scheduling for substation coverage
- Oversee protection relay settings, calibration, and testing (including distance, differential, overcurrent protections)
- Lead HV fault investigations, post-incident analysis, and corrective maintenance
- Maintain up-to-date single-line diagrams, equipment registers, and maintenance records
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations, LOTO procedures, and HSE requirements
- Manage spare parts inventory and procurement for HV assets
3.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 12 years of experience in HV electrical operations and maintenance
- At least 3-5 years in a supervisory or managerial role within an HV/substation environment
- Experience with 220 kV / 400 kV or higher voltage class equipment is preferred
- Hands-on experience with grid-connected substation operations and RLDC interface management
- Commissioning experience for HV substations or power plant electrical infrastructure
4.TECHNICAL COMPETENCY CRITERIA
- Expertise in HV switchgear (GIS/AIS), power transformers, instrument transformers, and protection relays
- Proficiency in protection relay testing tools (OMICRON, ISA, or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of grid codes, protection coordination, and power quality standards
- Knowledge of IEC 61850, IEC 60255 protection standards
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and EMS for substation monitoring
- Competency in HV switching operations, earthing schemes, and safety rules
5.EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering. Specialisation in High Voltage or Power Systems is preferred.
