Vnr Seeds is seeking a Horticulturist / Horticulturist Trainee for a field-based role in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The candidate will support and execute fruit crop research, including trials, data collection, plant selection, orchard management, and labour coordination in orchard settings.

The ideal candidate holds an M.Sc. in Horticulture (Fruit Science preferred) or has relevant academic exposure in fruit crops, and is comfortable working extensively in field conditions.

Qualifications

  • M.Sc. in Horticulture, preferably with specialization in Fruit Science.
  • Candidates with relevant academic or research exposure in fruit crops will be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute fruit crop breeding and research programmes.
  • Develop and implement breeding strategies based on defined research objectives.
  • Plan, execute, monitor, and evaluate research trials and field experiments.
  • Conduct systematic data collection, recording, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Identify and select promising plants/genotypes based on defined and objective traits.
  • Evaluate and compare breeding materials, varieties, and selections.
  • Draw meaningful conclusions and recommendations based on experimental and field data.
  • Undertake orchard management and monitor field experiments.
  • Effectively handle and manage field labour for timely execution of research and orchard activities.
  • Maintain proper research records, databases, observations, and documentation.
  • Prepare regular research reports, data summaries, and presentations.
  • Coordinate with R&D and other teams for effective execution of research activities.
  • Take ownership of assigned research activities and ensure timely completion of planned objectives.

About the Role

We are looking for enthusiastic and scientifically oriented professionals to join our Research & Development (R&D) Team - Fruit Crops .

The selected candidates will be responsible for supporting and executing fruit crop research and breeding activities, including research trials, data collection and analysis, plant selection, orchard management, field experimentation, and labour management.

This is primarily a field-based role , and candidates should be comfortable working extensively in orchards and field conditions.

Educational Qualification

  • Good understanding of experimental planning, data collection, and interpretation.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office, particularly MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Google Sheets.
  • Ability to prepare and present research reports, data summaries, and presentations effectively.
  • Strong planning, execution, and field management capabilities.
  • Good observation skills and a scientific approach towards problem-solving.
  • Ability to effectively manage and coordinate field labour.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and coordination skills.

  • Comfortable working extensively in orchards and field conditions.
  • Capable of working independently as well as coordinating effectively with teams.
  • Strong in observation, analysis, and scientific problem-solving.
  • Flexible and willing to relocate to any location based on organisational and operational requirements.

Experience
  • Candidates with prior experience in fruit crop research, breeding, nursery R&D, orchard management, or field experimentation will be preferred for the Horticulturist position.
  • Freshers with an M.Sc. in Horticulture and relevant academic/research exposure may be considered for the Horticulturist Trainee position.
