Qualifications

Description

PENNEP is seeking a contractual HL7 Integration Specialist to support our client’s healthcare data interoperability initiatives. The client’s environment utilises Mirth Connect as the interface engine for managing inbound and outbound data transformation and message orchestration.

The primary goal is to build scalable data translation workflows that convert HL7/CCDA into FHIR and integrate these with AWS-based analytics and AI systems.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, configure, and maintain Mirth Connect channels for healthcare data integration.
  • Perform data parsing, mapping, and transformation between HL7, CCDA, and FHIR formats.
  • Support integration workflows that feed downstream analytics and AI pipelines on AWS.
  • Write and troubleshoot scripts (JavaScript, SQL, etc.) within Mirth for custom transformations.
  • Collaborate with senior integration leads to ensure performance optimization and scalability.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and data privacy across all integration processes.
  • Document workflows, data mappings, and testing results.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in healthcare data integration and interoperability.
  • Strong expertise in HL7 v2.x and CCD (Continuity of Care Document) standards.
  • Hands‑on experience converting HL7/CCD to FHIR messages.
  • Proficiency in Mirth Connect, including channel development and deployment.
  • Proficiency in Mirth Connect, including scripting (JavaScript, SQL, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Mirth Connect, including troubleshooting and performance optimization.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services, such as Lambda, S3, API Gateway, and HealthLake.
  • Solid understanding of HIPAA and healthcare data security best practices.
  • Experience working with clinical data and large‑scale ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with clinical terminology standards (e.g., SNOMED CT, LOINC, ICD-10).
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and data formats (JSON, XML).
  • Exposure to DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines for integration deployment.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross‑functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail with strong documentation and organisational skills.
Nice to Have
