Growth Heist is seeking a Head of Technology in Bengaluru to drive architecture and technical strategy. This hands-on leader will balance 60% coding and 40% management, shaping multi-tenant systems and cloud infrastructure to scale with real-time messaging workloads.

You will mentor a lean team of engineers (FE/BE/AI), own critical system design, and expand AI-enabled features while maintaining code quality and delivering fast, reliable software for global brands.

The Role

Player-Coach (60% IC / 40% Management)

We are looking for a Head of Technology who is part architect, part tech lead, and part engineering manager. This is not a pure management role where you sit in meetings all day. We need a hands-on technical powerhouse who will spend 60% of their time deeply involved in the code, PR reviews, and system design, and 40% managing and scaling our lean, high-performing engineering team.

What You’ll Own

• Architecture & Scale: Own the health of a production multi-tenant Node.js/TypeScript and Java backend serving massive real-time messaging traffic.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Drive deep AWS architecture decisions, ensuring maximum uptime, system reliability, and stringent cloud cost optimization.
• Code Quality & Standards: Lead by example. Set the bar for PR reviews, test coverage, and error-handling patterns. You are bothered by silent failures and swallowed errors.
• Team Leadership: Currently manage a lean team of 3 highly capable engineers (FE, BE, AI), with the mandate to mentor, guide, and scale the team in the coming months.
• AI Integration: Oversee the expansion of our product into AI agents and voice workflows (prior AI experience is a plus, but a strong ability to learn on the job is required).

What We’re Looking For

• Experience: 7–10 years of backend software engineering experience, with a proven track record as a Lead, Staff Engineer, or Engineering Manager in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Core Stack: Deep, hands-on production expertise in Node.js/TypeScript or Java (Spring Boot).
• Cloud Infrastructure: Exceptional command over AWS. You must be able to design systems from scratch, manage infrastructure, and optimize costs efficiently.
• System Design: Strong experience with relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), async/event-driven systems, and handling scale.
• Work Ethic: You roll up your sleeves. You ask “why does this fail in production?” before asking “why didn’t someone write a test?”
