The Opportunity

CACI is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Engineering to lead our EO/IR Imaging Systems department, driving innovation and delivering high-quality products. This person will work onsite from our Bozeman, MT office, leading a distributed workforce with part of the team based in Australia. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record in managing cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute engineering strategy aligned with company goals.
  • Identify technological trends to drive business growth.
  • Create and maintain a long‑term technology roadmap.
  • Allocate resources effectively to support initiatives.
  • Oversee project planning, execution, and delivery.
  • Establish and enforce quality standards.
  • Manage technology stack and ensure alignment with business needs.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop engineering talent.
  • Set clear goals and conduct performance reviews.
  • Collaborate with other departments for successful project delivery.
  • Ensure robust, scalable system design and architecture.
  • Encourage innovation and stay updated on industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Manage technical risks and ensure data security.
  • Communicate progress and outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of processes and projects.
  • Promote continuous improvement and process optimization.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in a technical role.
  • Proven experience in software development or systems engineering.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture and design. Proficiency in relevant programming languages.
  • Excellent multitasking, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Customer‑facing communication experience.

Desired:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • Experience with optics, gimbal systems, or EO/IR imaging.
  • Familiarity with ITAR regulations.
  • Experience with Agile, Scrum, DevOps practices.
  • Experience in defense, intelligence, or government sectors.

Pay Range

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary, including geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is: $108,900 - $239,500
