Collaborate with Product Manager and executives to translate strategy into engineering outcomes. You will oversee backend architecture, infrastructure, data pipelines, security, and third-party integrations, while guiding hiring and engineering processes.

Role Overview

We are seeking a passionate Head of Engineering to take complete ownership of the tech powering our loan comparison platform. In this role, you will architect a scalable and secure backend, manage cloud infrastructure, and directly contribute critical code while building and guiding a distributed engineering team. You will work closely with our Product Manager and executive team to turn business strategy into high-impact engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Backend Architecture & Development: Architect and implement maintainable, testable, and scalable backend systems and APIs using Java, Python, and modern frameworks.
• Infrastructure & DevOps: Design, secure, and manage a highly available AWS cloud environment using Docker, Kubernetes/Docker Swarm, Ansible, and automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Database & Data Pipelines: Build efficient MongoDB/Mongoose schemas and manage data flow across core platform services.
• System Security & Performance: Manage Linux/Ubuntu hosts, implement strict security measures (IAM roles/permissions), and ensure high system uptime and low latency.
• Integrations: Build and maintain reliable third-party API integrations, working closely with front-end engineers to ensure clean data consumption.
• Engineering Leadership: Lead code reviews, delegate tasks, shape engineering workflows, and actively participate in hiring talent for our growing team.

What We Look For

Core Requirements:

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience in high-volume, data-intensive tech environments (ideally in credit, lending, or fintech).
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Deep proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, Microservices, Data Structures, and Algorithms.
• Strong track record of designing, deploying, and optimizing resilient, high-performance distributed systems.
• Practical experience with Linux system administration, database performance tuning (MongoDB), caching, and asynchronous/event-driven processing.

Preferred:

• Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, and event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience within high-throughput transactional domains (fintech, payments, lending).
