Job summary

Freelancer in Bengaluru is seeking an experienced firmware leader to own architecture and development for enterprise HDD firmware (SAS/SATA, NVMe). You will define frameworks, guide verification, and drive production releases.

You will lead a team of firmware engineers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and engage with customers to resolve complex issues while optimizing performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Firmware architecture design and development experience.
• Experience defining software frameworks and module interfaces for scalable storage solutions.
• Ability to lead verification, validation, and release processes for firmware.

Responsibilities

• Firmware Architecture & Development for enterprise HDDs (SAS/SATA, ZAC/ZBC).
• Define firmware architecture, software frameworks, and module interfaces for scalable storage solutions.
• Firmware/Software development lifecycle including requirements, design, implementation, validation, and release.
• Implement algorithms and/or improve implementations and participate in verification and production.
• Drive storage feature development including FTL, Garbage Collection, Error Recovery, Power-Fail Management, Storage Protocols (SATA, SAS, NVMe).
• Lead cross-functional collaboration and engage with customers and field teams to resolve issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Firmware Architecture & Development
• Design, develop, and maintain firmware for enterprise HDD involving SAS/SATA, ZAC/ZBC
• Define firmware architecture, software frameworks, and module interfaces for scalable storage solutions
• Firmware/Software development lifecycle including requirements, design, implementation, validation, and release.
• Implement algorithms and/or improve implementations and take part in their verification and production.

Storage Technology Leadership

• Drive development of advanced storage features including:
  • Middleware/Flash Translation Layer (FTL)
  • Garbage Collection
  • Error Recovery
  • Power-Fail Management
  • Storage Protocol (SATA, SAS, NVMe) knowhow
• Collaborate on future storage technologies and product roadmaps.

Performance & Reliability Optimization

• Analyze and optimize firmware performance, latency, throughput, and resource utilization.
• Lead root cause analysis of field issues and customer escalations.
• Develop diagnostic, telemetry, and debug capabilities.
• Develop simulation architecture to validate new performance algorithms.

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to firmware engineers.
• Participate in architecture reviews and technical decision-making.
• Engage with customers and field teams to understand requirements and resolve complex issues.
