Job summary

The Economist Group is seeking a Group Sustainability Analyst to turn sustainability data into practical insights for business planning and decision-making. You will work with Finance, Procurement, Distribution and Logistics, Technology, Risk, Compliance and HR to improve data quality and reporting accuracy.

You will support regulatory disclosures, monitor climate targets and help integrate sustainability considerations into planning and risk management, with opportunities to leverage AI tools

Qualifications

  • Experience analysing business or sustainability data.
  • Good understanding of greenhouse gas accounting and sustainability reporting frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience working with large datasets and reporting tools, including advanced Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to non-specialists.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence working across multiple business functions.
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainability and continuous improvement.
  • A proactive self-starter who can manage competing priorities in a global organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Support quarterly and annual sustainability reporting, including multiple regulatory disclosures.
  • Collect, validate and analyse environmental and business data with strong data governance.
  • Produce actionable insights on sustainability performance, risks and opportunities.
  • Monitor progress against climate targets and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Integrate sustainability considerations into business planning and risk decisions.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Procurement, Technology, HR, Risk and Compliance to enhance reporting.
  • Support supplier engagement and Scope 3 emissions analysis.
  • Manage sustainability reporting systems and carbon accounting tools.
  • Use AI and digital tools to improve reporting efficiency and data quality.
  • Prepare presentations and dashboards for senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to internal sustainability campaigns and awareness initiatives.

About the role

The Group Sustainability Analyst combines data analysis, business partnering and communication to translate sustainability data into practical insights that support business planning, operational decision-making and continuous improvement.


Working with teams including Finance, Procurement, Distribution and Logistics, Technology, Risk, and Compliance and HR, the Group Sustainability Analyst will improve sustainability data, support regulatory reporting and identify environmental risks, opportunities, and trends.



Key responsibilities


  • Support the delivery of quarterly and annual sustainability reporting, including the Sustainability Report, CDP, IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, GRI, SECR and other regulatory disclosures.

  • Collect, validate and analyse environmental and business data, ensuring accuracy, consistency and strong data governance.

  • Produce actionable insights that help leaders understand sustainability performance, risks and opportunities.

  • Monitor progress against climate targets and identify opportunities to improve environmental performance.

  • Support the integration of sustainability considerations into business planning, risk management and operational decision-making.

  • Partner with colleagues across Finance, Procurement, Technology, HR, Risk and Compliance to improve sustainability data, reporting and decision-making.

  • Support supplier engagement and Scope 3 emissions analysis to improve understanding of value chain emissions.

  • Manage sustainability reporting systems, carbon accounting tools and external assurance processes.

  • Use AI and digital tools responsibly to improve reporting efficiency, automate routine analysis and strengthen data quality.

  • Prepare presentations, briefing papers and dashboards for senior leadership and key business stakeholders.

  • Support internal sustainability engagement through presentations, communications and internal awareness campaigns, including initiatives such as Earth Week and Plastic Free July.



Skills and experience

Essential



  • Experience analysing business or sustainability data.

  • Good understanding of greenhouse gas accounting and sustainability reporting frameworks.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.

  • Experience working with large datasets and reporting tools, including advanced Excel.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to non-specialist colleagues.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence working across multiple business functions.

  • Demonstrated interest in sustainability and continuous improvement.

  • A proactive self-starter who is comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities and building relationships across a global organisation.



Preferred



  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau or other business intelligence tools.

  • Experience using sustainability reporting platforms.

  • Experience using AI tools to improve analysis and reporting.

  • Project management experience.

  • Experience supporting employee engagement initiatives, internal communications or sustainability campaigns.
