Kirana Club is India's largest digital community of kirana owners. 45 lakh+ store owners use our app for news, mandi rates and peer advice, and order products to stock up their shops.
Our users run small shops in Tier 2, 3 and 4 towns and villages. Most read Hindi before English.
About the role:
You'll own every visual we use to bring new retailers to Kirana Club: Meta and Google ads, static and video, and the screens they land on. Paid acquisition runs on a ₹1Cr+ monthly budget, so your creatives decide who we reach and what each new retailer costs us.
Our user is a shop owner in a small town, scrolling between customers on a budget phone. Metro D2C playbooks (minimal layouts, English punchlines, lifestyle imagery) often don't land with them. We need someone who will find out what does: which number to make biggest, which product to show, which font and colour stop the scroll, and in which language.
This is a performance role first. Your work is judged on click-through, cost per retailer and first orders, not on likes. You'll run many small experiments every week, kill what doesn't work and scale what does.
What you'll do:
- Own performance creatives end to end: Concept, design and ship static ads for Meta and Google, from the brief to the ad going live to the result coming back.
- Decide what the ad says visually: What goes first, what gets the most space (price, margin, product, offer), and which fonts, colours and layouts get the message across in under 2 seconds.
- Run the creative testing engine: Plan weekly tests with the performance marketing team across hooks, layouts, colours and formats. See which ads won on click-through, cost per retailer and first orders, and use what you learn to plan the next round of tests.
- Design for Bharat, Hindi first: Make creatives in Devanagari Hindi, and adapt them for state-level campaigns as we expand region by region.
- Build a system, not one-offs: Create templates and a visual playbook so a winning idea becomes dozens of variants in a day, and new brands and offers go live fast.
- Work AI-first: Use AI image tools like ChatGPT Images and Gemini, to explore ideas and produce variants at speed. Keep the judgment on what goes live.
What we are looking for:
- 2–5 years designing performance creatives: Paid social, app-install or commerce ads, in-house at a consumer tech company or at a performance agency.
- A portfolio of ads that actually ran: For each, show the goal, what you tested, what won and what you learned.
- Strong visual fundamentals: Hierarchy, typography, colour and layout. You can explain why one version should beat another before the test runs.
- An experiment mindset: You'd rather ship ten rough variants and learn than polish one for a week.
- AI-native: You use ChatGPT Image, Gemini or similar tools every day, and can show how they make your work faster and better. [Must]
- High ownership: You push back on weak briefs, drive work without a perfect one, and stay with it after launch.
- Based in Bengaluru, ready to work from office.
You'll thrive here if you start every design from the user. You're curious about how a kirana owner thinks, shops and reads a screen, and you're always trying a new layout, colour or format to see if it works better than the last one.
Bonus Point:
- You've designed for Tier 2, 3 and 4 India: Users who are new to the internet, price-sensitive and on budget phones, at a Bharat-first marketplace, fintech, or similar companies.
- Strong Hindi: You read and write it well, know how Devanagari behaves in an ad (matras, line height, weights), and can tell when a line sounds like a shopkeeper and when it sounds like a translation.
- You know retail or FMCG: Margin, scheme, MRP and bulk rate mean something to you, and to the people you design for.
WhyJoin Us:
- Your work is the first impression: For lakhs of shop owners, your ad is the first thing they ever see of Kirana Club.
- Fast, real feedback: A large monthly budget means your ideas get tested on large scale and you see results within days.
- An audience few designers have cracked: You'll define what great performance design looks like for Bharat's kirana owners.
- Small team, large scope: No layers between you, the performance team and the people who decide what we build next.
