Job summary

Adani Group's port division seeks a Head of Engineering to oversee maintenance, repair, and operation of MHS, cranes, electrical and instrumentation systems, and mobile equipment, ensuring uninterrupted port operations and maximum equipment availability.

You will drive engineering projects, spare parts management, and the introduction of new technologies while leading the AKPL Port Maintenance Team and coordinating with HOWE for master-planned infrastructure.

Qualifications

• B.Tech/B.E. with extensive management experience in port/shipyard engineering.
• 15–20 years of leadership in engineering functions at a port.
• Experience with maintenance strategies, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee maintenance for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems to improve MTTR/MTBF.
• Lead project execution for mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and CWS projects.
• Control Capex and Opex budgets and optimize spare parts and consumables.
• Coordinate equipment procurement and evaluation for current/future needs.
• Ensure safety, IMS compliance, and adherence to statutory requirements.

Job description

Purpose/Objective

• Head - Engineering is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operation of the port's Material Handling Systems (MHS), Material Handling Cranes (MHC), electrical and instrumentation systems, and mobile equipment.
• This role ensures the execution of engineering projects, spare parts management, and the introduction of new technologies to maintain uninterrupted port operations and maximize equipment availability.

Key Responsibilities of Role

• Maintenance Strategy and Execution: Plan and oversee breakdown, preventive, and predictive maintenance for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems to improve Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
• Utilize modern maintenance tools to enhance system reliability and availability.
• Project Management: Execute and manage mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and CWS projects, ensuring they are completed by the AKPL Port Maintenance Team according to specifications.
• Budget Control: Monitor, review, and control Capex and Opex expenses, ensuring cost-effective operations.
• Review and manage spare parts, consumables, maintenance, and repair costs to optimize expenditures.
• Use of capex for asset creation and supporting infrastructure.
• Strategic Infrastructure Development: Serve as the primary interface for new projects and infrastructure modifications in consultation with HOWE and align with the master plan of ports.
• Equipment Procurement and Evaluation: Conduct technical evaluations and advise on the procurement of best-in-class equipment to meet the port's current and future operational needs.
• Energy Management: Analyze energy consumption trends, identify energy-saving opportunities, and implement energy conservation measures.
• Safety and Compliance: Ensure safety during maintenance activities, maintain IMS certification, and adhere to all statutory compliance requirements.
• Resource Management: Allocate manpower and resources effectively, ensuring cross-functional utilization of skills across the department.
• Innovation and Sustainability: Foster continuous innovation for enhanced tech and efficiency.
• Promote sustainable practices.
• Seek local production opportunities, work with engineers, and adopt novel solutions.
• Health & Safety: Conduct emergency drills, emphasize safety compliance, and promote a culture of safety within the team.
• SAP and Safety Management: Maintain data in the SAP PM module and conduct safety meetings to develop new ideas and encourage an agile approach to growth prospects.
