Job summary

Citigroup Inc. seeks a Senior AI Engineer to architect, design, and lead scalable Gen AI and Agentic solutions in collaboration with the AI Innovation team. The role emphasizes deep technical leadership to drive key AI initiatives and mentorship for junior staff.

The position supports both individual contributor and people-manager tracks (AVP) with agile delivery, security/compliance, and cloud-native architectures using Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• 7-10 years of overall experience
• 2.5 years in architecting and developing production-ready Gen AI RAG or Agent-based solutions
• Expert-level understanding of Agentic solution design (architecture selection, memory management, hallucination control, RL feedback loops)
• Strong experience in architecting scalable, available, and performant technology solutions
• Deep expertise in agent training, performance measurement, and feedback processes
• Proven ability to mentor and lead technical teams
• Strong exposure to program/project management, Agile methodologies, and planning development timelines
• In-depth knowledge of compliance, security, and performance management in production environments
• Mastery of Python, AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain), MLOps, and cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes)

Job Description

The Senior AI Engineer is a senior professional responsible for architecting, designing, and leading the development of innovative and scalable AI solutions in coordination with the AI Innovation team. The overall objective is to leverage deep technical expertise and leadership skills to drive the execution of key AI initiatives and mentor other team members. This role supports a dual-track career path for both Senior Individual Contributors and developing People Managers (AVP).

Responsibilities:

• Architect, design, and lead the development of production-grade Generative AI applications and complex Agentic solutions.
• Define and drive technical strategy for AI projects, including making key decisions on architecture, frameworks, and tools. This includes evaluating different agentic architectures and evolving industry practices to select the optimal approach.
• Lead the design and implementation of agent training, performance measurement, correction, and feedback processes, and create/articulate new architectural options.
• Ensure solutions meet stringent compliance, security, and performance management standards.
• Mentor a team of junior and intermediate engineers and data scientists, training them in advanced Agentic solution development and software engineering best practices.
• Oversee project/program management using Agile processes, including planning and managing development timelines and deliverables.
• (For Manager Track - AVP): Begin to take on formal people management responsibilities, including performance reviews, career development, and team building.

Qualifications:

• 7-10 years of overall experience with a minimum of 2.5 years of experience in architecting and developing production-ready Gen AI RAG or Agent-based solutions.
• Expert-level understanding of Agentic solution design, including architecture selection, memory management, hallucination control, and reinforcement learning feedback loops.
• Strong experience in architecting and designing highly scalable, available, and performant technology solutions.
• Deep expertise in Agent training, performance measurement, and feedback processes.
• Proven ability to mentor and lead technical teams.
• Strong exposure to program/project management, Agile methodologies, and planning development timelines.
• In-depth knowledge of compliance, security, and performance management in a production environment.
• Mastery of Python, AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain), MLOps, and cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes).

Education:

• Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience; Master's degree preferred in Computer Science, AI, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
