Job summary

Shipsy is seeking Forward Deployed Engineers to work embedded with enterprise customers in Gurugram, India. You will configure the platform, build integrations (SAP, Oracle, TMS, WMS), and design AI-enabled agent workflows that drive live deployments.

You will be paired with a deployment strategist, reporting to an Engagement Manager, and travel 30–50% for go-live, with on-site support when not traveling. This role blends customer empathy with technical execution.

About the role

The Forward Deployed Engineer is one of the highest-leverage technical roles at Shipsy. The thesis is simple: the engineers closest to the customer’s real problems, with the most context, build the fastest and most valuable things first. What you build for one customer becomes the blueprint for what our platform productises for everyone.

You’re embedded inside one of our strategic enterprise customers, paired with a deployment strategist, reporting to an Engagement Manager. You configure Shipsy to the customer’s reality, build the integrations that make it usable, and ship the agent workflows that make it transformative.

This is not an engineering role that sits in a squad shipping tickets. It’s an engineer who lives in the customer’s operations, understands their world better than most of their own employees, and makes Shipsy work for them personally.

What you’ll own

• Configuration. Translate Shipsy’s platform into a working implementation for your customer — orchestration flows, business rules, pricing logic, operational workflows.
• Integrations. SAP, Oracle, TMS, WMS, custom legacy systems — whatever plumbing it takes to make Shipsy the system of action inside the customer’s stack.
• AI agents. Design and deploy dispatch copilots, invoice reconciliation agents, and operational decision layers on Shipsy’s agent platform. Ship what the customer needs, fast.
• Go-live. Own the technical path from pilot to production. When the integration breaks at 2am, you’re the one accountable — not a platform team two time zones away.
• Pairing with your strategist. The deployment strategist frames the problem; you build the solution. Debate, push back, sharpen each other. Neither works in isolation.
• Product feedback. Every configuration you ship is a product signal. What you build this quarter is what our platform team productises next quarter.
• Scaling yourself. Use AI tooling aggressively. You should be the person on the team who has automated more of their own work than anyone else.

Who we’re looking for

We hire two complementary profiles. Both are valid; the mix depends on the account.

Profile A — Engineering-deep. Strong software engineer from a high-growth technology company. IIT / NIT / BITS or equivalent. 3+ years of production engineering. Comfortable with ambiguity, comfortable owning a customer relationship, comfortable working without a PM spec.

Profile B — Transformation-deep. Ex-MBB, GCC banking, or equivalent experience managing large-scale enterprise change programmes — with strong technical curiosity and hands-on AI fluency. Not the engineer who shipped the backend, but the person who figured out why the backend needed to be rewritten.

Across both profiles, we’re looking for:

• Entrepreneurial instinct. You’ve founded something, owned a business unit, or driven a significant initiative end-to-end. You take accountability without being asked.
• You use AI tools in your work. Claude, GPT, agent frameworks. We’ll ask what you’ve actually built, not what you’ve read about.
• Technical credibility. You can work directly with APIs, data pipelines, and agent configuration. You can read unfamiliar code, stand up infrastructure, and debug production issues.
• Complex stakeholder management. Equally effective in an executive conversation and a ground-level operations environment.
• Structured problem-solving. First-principles thinker who decomposes ambiguous problems into clear, sequenced, actionable plans.
• Tier-1 education. IIT / NIT / BITS / equivalent, or top international institution.

Where the role sits

You work in a small team led by an Engagement Manager, alongside a deployment strategist and a support and training lead. You report to the Engagement Manager on your account, with a dotted line to the regional Senior Director, Growth Strategy for career development. Your day-to-day is set by your customer’s needs, not by a central engineering sprint.

Travel to customer site is expected - typically 30-50% of your time, sometimes more during go-live. When not on-site, you’re in our Gurugram office with the other forward deployed engineers, peer-reviewing each other’s configurations and comparing patterns across accounts.

The progression path is clear. Senior forward deployed engineers become Engagement Managers. Exceptional ones carve out a platform area of their own and move into our product engineering team. A subset move onto the AI platform team as agent engineers. This is the single largest source of senior technical talent we expect to develop over the next three years.
