Job summary

Corning Inc. seeks an experienced Plant Controller to lead the finance function at the Pune site, driving cost understanding and profitability.

You will oversee budgeting, forecasting, fixed assets, inventory valuation, and product costing while ensuring robust internal controls and compliance. Prepare timely analyses for leadership, evaluate ROI/IRR for capital investments, and partner with operations on cost-reduction initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Cost Accountant with 9–16 years in multinational finance roles.
  • CA qualification is mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of IND AS, US GAAP & IFRS.
  • Manufacturing/cost accounting experience with financial controls.
  • Comfortable interfacing with plant management and senior managers.
  • Proficient in Excel & PowerPoint; ERP experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the finance function and be a key decision maker for the plant.
  • Proactively partner with operations to improve cost understanding and profitability.
  • Ensure timely accounting activities: fixed assets, inventory valuation, product costing, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Implement and enforce internal finance controls including Sarbanes Oxley compliance.
  • Provide finance expertise and decision support to business leaders for division strategy.
  • Deliver timely in-month analyses of variances and mitigation options before period close.
  • Assess ROI, IRR and payback for capital investments.
  • Drive process improvement and cost-reduction initiatives with engineering teams.
  • Spend time on the production floor to integrate with the plant team.
  • Report plant financial performance and key metrics across forums.
  • Support site safety culture and compliance with divisional requirements.

Job Role:
  • Lead the finance function, and be a key member and decision maker of the management staff
  • Proactively utilize business partnership skills to move the plant to better cost understanding and higher profitability
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of accounting activities, including fixed asset management, inventory valuation, product costing, period reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and overall asset, and liability control
  • Implement and ensure business adherence to internal finance controls including data and reporting standards and compliance (Sarbanes Oxley regulations and external audits)
  • Provide finance expertise and decision support to business leaders in support of the division strategy (efficient turnaround time to inquiries from internal customers).
  • Provide to leadership timely, in-month analyses of variations to targets and mitigation options before period close
  • Identify and assess the financial implications (ROI, IRR & Payback) of capital investments.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives and support engineering in identifying and calculating Cost Reduction opportunities for various projects / initiatives
  • Willingness to fully integrate into plant’s team by spending time on production floor on a regular basis. Embrace Corning’s culture and values.
  • Analyze and report on key plant operational and accounting metrics. Present plant financial performance in various forums as required
  • Actively participate in the development of the site’s total safety culture
  • Ensure appropriate support of COC’s divisional requirements and Corning Finance functions
  • Drive process improvement within finance function: document existing processes (SOP’s) and seek improvement opportunities to reduce complexity
  • Fundamental understanding on plant / product costs
  • Ability to take on various ad-hoc responsibilities as required
  • Source, select, and develop talent to support global and entity Finance talent needs
Education and Experience:
  • Cost Accountant with 9-16 progressive experience progressive accounting / finance roles in Multinational/Global company. CA qualification is must.
  • Extensive knowledge of IND AS, US GAAP & IFRS.
  • Manufacturing/Cost Accounting experience with deep understanding of financial controls
  • Ability to be creative in providing financial solutions to business leaders.
  • Ability to be comfortable interacting and communicating with all aspects of the business, including plant management staff and senior managers
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, work proactively and independently in a fast-changing environment.
  • Strong Excel & PowerPoint Skills
  • Experience with SAP or any other ERP is must
