Job summary

McKinsey & Company, Chennai office, seeks a senior leader to own end-to-end accounts payable QA operations, driving regulatory compliance and efficiency in a globally connected finance team.

You will partner with senior leadership to set AP strategy, standardize processes, and lead automation initiatives. This role requires 12+ years in AP, 5+ years in leadership, and strong experience with SAP/Oracle.

Qualifications

YOUR IMPACT

You will take ownership of the end-to-end accounts payable Quality Assurance operations at our Chennai office, leading strategic initiatives that drive efficiency, regulatory compliance, and alignment with our global organizational goals. You will work within our collaborative Finance Operations team to help individual team members and the broader function achieve their full potential through holistic interventions in performance, capabilities, and organizational health. You will provide strategic leadership by developing accounts payable strategies and partnering with senior leadership to identify and address systemic finance challenges and opportunities. You will foster a team culture centered on continuous improvement, exceptional service delivery, and operational excellence. You will oversee the performance and professional development of your finance team, including team leads, process leads, and finance managers, by conducting regular evaluations and providing constructive feedback. You will identify key training and capability needs, facilitate relevant development programs, and actively support the recruitment, onboarding, and mentorship of emerging finance leaders. You will drive process standardization across accounts payable functions, identifying bottlenecks and implementing innovative solutions to optimize workflows. You will co‑lead strategic technology initiatives to automate invoice processing and leverage modern tools to enhance overall operational efficiency. You will lead and manage critical finance projects from inception to completion, coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure objectives are met and resources are utilized effectively. You will monitor project progress, proactively address challenges, and provide regular updates on milestones to senior leadership. You will oversee the daily operations of the quality assurance teams to ensure smooth service delivery, reviewing and approving critical financial reports to guarantee accuracy and strict compliance with standards. You will monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), manage operational risk, implement robust internal controls, and take decisive corrective actions to achieve targets. You will build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with global offices, procurement teams, and other business units, acting as a trusted liaison between finance teams and key internal or external stakeholders. You will represent the finance function in audits, formal engagements, and cross‑functional corporate initiatives. You will be based in our Chennai Office as part of our Finance Global Operations service line.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
  • 12+ years of extensive experience in Global Accounts Payable Operations—including invoice processing, compliance, and financial reporting—within fast‑paced, multinational environments
  • 5+ years of leadership in a multinational shared services environment, with a proven track record of managing large, diverse finance teams and leading multiple functions
  • Strong technical expertise in finance processes, accounting principles, and financial systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), with hands‑on experience in SOX compliance, internal audits, and AP QA trend analysis
  • Prior experience with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) along with exposure to AI implementation and stabilization
  • Proficient in rational, data‑driven decision‑making, logical reasoning, and creating high‑quality, product‑focused work materials and outputs
  • Excellent organizational capabilities, including the ability to work in‑person, initiate tasks independently, and see them through to completion within complex, autonomous environments
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English and local office language(s), with the ability to tailor communication styles to diverse audiences and seniority levels
