Job summary

Trek Bicycle Corp (India) is seeking a Finance Controller to lead the finance function end-to-end for Trek India. You will drive expense management, storytelling with data, and commercial decision-making, with a path to broader leadership within the Shared Services organization.

The role focuses on financial reporting, internal controls, and partnering with business leaders to sustain growth and profitability across the India market.

Qualifications

  • CA/CWA/CPA qualification and accounting degree required.

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close process and report to US GAAP within 3 days of month-end.
  • Oversee compliance, internal controls, and regulatory reporting.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for India.
  • Partner with the India Country Manager to shape strategy and long-range plans.
  • Provide analysis to support sales, margins, and cash flow decisions.
  • Collaborate with global senior finance group and US HQ.

Role Overview

This is a key role in driving the future success of the Trek brand in India. As Finance Controller, you will lead the finance function end-to-end, building a high-performance culture that does the basics brilliantly while adding real value to your business partners through expense management, compelling storytelling, and data-led commercial decision-making. Beyond this core finance mandate, we are looking for someone excited to stretch into a broader leadership opportunity. This is a chance to build cross-functional leadership experience as you help scale and strengthen Trek India's Shared Services organization, with a clear path to take on full leadership of this function in the future.

Objectives of the role
  • Help ensure financial reporting is accurate and stays compliant with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and sound risk management practices.
  • Bring insightful analysis on margins, profitability, working capital, and overall business performance.
  • Support leadership with the insights they need to make informed decisions.
  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning process.
  • Keep track of performance against plans and help drive accountability for results.
  • Oversee statutory audits, internal audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Help ensure audit observations are closed out on time, with corrective actions followed through.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the monthly close process, reporting to Group under US GAAP within 3 days of month-end.
  • All balance sheet accounts reconciled and clean.
  • All income statement accounts analyzed and explained.
  • Present monthly results and financial & non-financial KPIs to the US Headquarters.
  • Lead the finance department.
  • Oversee credit control, working to minimize past dues and DSO.
  • Build and maintain a strong internal control environment.
Compliance, Taxations & Audit
  • Stay on top of local financial and regulatory compliance, keeping a close eye on the environment to ensure we remain compliant.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, including safeguarding of assets and compliance with external regulations and internal policies/delegation of authority.
  • Own direct and indirect tax reporting and compliance, ensuring payments are accurate and on time.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for internal audits, building close, cooperative working relationships.
Working Capital and Cash flow management
  • Oversee dealer/customer credit management processes.
  • Work to minimize overdue receivables and improve Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
  • Monitor customer risk exposure and recommend corrective actions where needed.
  • Support effective cash flow planning and liquidity management.
  • Partner with customers and stakeholders to establish practices that support sustainable growth and healthy cash flow.
Commercial Finance & Business Partnering
  • Own the budgeting and monthly reforecasting process, delivering high accuracy with fully explained results and on-time deadlines.
  • Analyze sales and gross margin, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor and build awareness of expenses, leading efforts to manage these down when needed.
  • Support the India Country Manager in shaping strategy and long-range business plans.
  • Provide routine and ad-hoc analysis to support sales and management.
  • Partner closely with all departments to deliver financial support and informed decision-making.
  • As part of the global senior finance group, liaise with functional leaders at US Headquarters.
  • Work with customers to establish best-practice benchmarks and help them manage cash flow and grow profitably.
  • Lead projects and ad-hoc initiatives as needed.
Shared Service Business
  • Play a role in shaping and executing Trek India Shared Services strategy, in line with business objectives and global priorities.
  • Support Trek India’s Shared Services Business / Teams to help deliver high-quality, cost-effective, customer-centric services across supported functions to global Trek subsidiaries & businesses.
  • Help set and track service delivery standards, SLAs, KPIs, and customer satisfaction metrics.
  • Support compliance with the Income Tax Act, particularly Transfer Pricing provisions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • 12-14 years of overall experience, including 5+ years in a direct leadership capacity within an accounting, auditing, or finance function.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CA, CWA, or CPA qualification.
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills able to turn large amounts of data into simple, workable processes with built-in sense checks.
  • Familiarity with JD Edwards or similar ERP systems, with a proven ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Brings a flexible, positive attitude and energy to the team.
  • Strong financial qualifications and demonstrable knowledge of the regulatory environment in India.
  • Comfortable diving into the details to solve complex issues, while still seeing the bigger picture.
  • Able to provide clear, fact-based analysis to support a recommended course of action.
  • A natural leader and team player who holds the team to high standards.
  • Combines empathy with assertiveness and strong influencing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail; tenacious and methodical.
