Haachi, an executive search firm, is supporting and advising a global high-frequency trading firm in hiring an Equity Research Analyst for its options trading desk, which trades Indian options. This is not a buy-side or sell-side role. The analyst sits alongside traders, producing notes and reports for internal use and advising the traders directly on the desk's systematic and semi-systematic trading strategies, with real-time directional insight. The analyst maintains active coverage of a wide range of stocks and keeps close watch on the market, including earnings calls, policy changes and other events, assessing how they affect the price of the underlying stock and the price of its options. The analyst's calls have a direct, immediate impact on the desk's P&L, so the impact of the research is visible straight away.
Role: Equity Research Analyst
Location: Mumbai or Hong Kong, sitting alongside the traders on the desk
Experience: 3-5 years
Coverage: Indian Markets
About Our Client
Our client is a privately held global trading firm with offices in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Australia. It has been a market maker in options for decades and now runs high-frequency and semi-systematic strategies across several asset classes. Research sits inside the trading process: ideas are judged by what they add to trading outcomes.
The Role
You will sit alongside the traders on the desk, in Mumbai or Hong Kong, and cover the Indian equity and options market. Your coverage is the core of the role: you follow Indian companies and the options market on them closely enough to tell traders what is priced, what is not, and why.
Who You Will Write For
- Primary readers: the derivatives and options traders on the semi-systematic desk.
- How they use your work: traders read your view within minutes, before the open or during the session, and act on it. Your analysis also feeds the desk's automated strategies.
- What this means: you are not writing a report for publication or a 12-month target. You are giving traders a direction, a confidence level, an expected move, and the condition that would change your view.
Coverage
- Indian single stocks and index options, including weekly and monthly expiries.
- Financials, insurers, IT, autos, and other sectors, with the companies that move the Indian options market most.
- Corporate actions, dividends, results, and regulatory decisions that change the expected move.
Research Standard
Your research is built on depth and rigour: the work behind each view is thorough, tested against past events, and checked against the options market. What reaches the trader is precise and succinct. A trader should be able to read a view in seconds and know exactly how confident you are and what would change your mind.
How Your Work Is Measured
- Hit rate on direction for event calls, tracked against outcomes.
- Accuracy of your expected move compared with the move the options market implied.
- Speed of first commentary after a company announcement.
- Quality of the scenario analysis, judged by whether the probabilities add to one and match the outcomes over time.
A Typical Day
- Before the open: Review overnight news, filings, and announcements. Send the desk a morning brief with the day's catalysts and expected moves.
- During market hours: Give real-time commentary on breaking news, results, and corporate actions, each with a direction, probability, and time frame.
- Event preparation: Build pre-event notes for earnings, dividends, M&A, and regulatory decisions. Estimate the expected move and compare it with the options-implied move.
- Ongoing coverage: Track financials, insurers, IT, autos, and other sectors. Update valuation and earnings views and flag any change.
- Collaboration: Work daily with derivatives traders on strategy and execution, and with the global research team across time zones.
What You'll Do
- Monitor Indian equity markets for catalysts and market-moving events
- Run event-driven and valuation analysis to find trading opportunities
- Deliver actionable commentary on news, earnings, and corporate actions
- Assess special situations: M&A, earnings surprises, regulatory shifts, and macro developments
- Forecast dividends and assess their effect on option pricing
- Work with derivatives traders to refine strategy and execution
