Job summary

NopalCyber is seeking a Data Protection Engineer specialized in DLP to design, implement, and operate robust data protection solutions. You will integrate DLP, encryption, and key management into business processes and IT systems, collaborating with multiple stakeholders to embed privacy-by-design principles.

Ideal candidates have extensive experience with DLP platforms and data classification, and can lead initiatives in environments with varying data-security maturity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of minimum experience in data protection or cybersecurity architecture.
• Hands-on experience with DLP technologies (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Netskope, Varonis, Forcepoint).
• Strong understanding of data protection principles (least privilege, data classification, access control).
• Experience in low-maturity data security environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate data protection solutions focusing on DLP.
• Tune and apply data discovery, classification, encryption, and key management controls.
• Collaborate with Engineering, IT, Compliance, Legal, and Privacy to embed privacy-by-design.
• Define DLP policies, labels, and rules to prevent data leakage.
• Monitor DLP alerts, investigate incidents, and drive remediation.
• Develop campaigns with the awareness team on responsible data handling.

Job Description

Role Overview

The DLP Administrator isresponsible for designing, implementing, and operating data protectionsolutions with a primary focus on Data Loss Prevention (DLP). This role ensuresthat robust data protection practices are integrated into business processes,IT systems, and user behavior. A key objective is to establish best-in-classdata protection capabilities in an environment with less data securityawareness and cultural challenges, such as widespread data sharing orunauthorized data transfers.

As a subject matter expertin data security and privacy engineering, this individual deploys and tunesdata discovery, classification, DLP, encryption, and key management controls.The Data Protection Engineer partners closely with Engineering, IT, Compliance,Legal, and Privacy stakeholders to embed privacy-by-design principles into howdata is created, stored, shared, retained, and monitored.

Key Responsibilities

• DataLoss Prevention (DLP) design, evaluation, finalize & implement of a DLPsolution aligned with business needs and data protection risks
• Implementand tune sensitivity labels, and data classification rules based on businessand regulatory requirements.
• Defineand maintain DLP policies and rules to detect and prevent unauthorized dataaccess, transfer, or leakage
• ManageDLP policy lifecycle including versioning, change control, exception handling,and periodic policy reviews
• MonitorDLP alerts and ensure timely investigation, triage, and response
• Continuouslyrefining DLP configuration based on insider threat trends, user behavior, andbusiness feedback
• Collaboratewith client users - IT, process owners, and application teams to embed dataprotection controls into systems and workflows
• Performdata discovery, flow analysis and risk assessments to identify sensitive dataexposure points
• Defineand apply classification, access control, and encryption strategies whereverneeded
• Workclosely with the awareness team to develop targeted campaigns focused onresponsible data handling and the risks of data leakage
• Engagewith teams to understand behaviors and perceptions around data use and designappropriate behavioral change strategies
• Activelycontributes to the development of a data protection culture in units with lowinitial awareness and high risk of data misuse.
• ComplianceSupport or Ensure that implemented controls align with data protectionregulations and internal security policies
• Supportaudits, assessments, and compliance reviews related to data security
• Maintaindocumentation for data protection controls, configurations, and incidentshandling
• Having relevant cloud security(Ex: SC-400) and respective tool expertise certifications will be an addedadvantage

What We’re Looking For:

• 5+ years of minimum experience in data protection, ascybersecurity specialist or architect
• Hands-on experience with DLP technologies (e.g., MicrosoftPurview, Netskope, Varonis, Forcepoint, etc.), with a track record ofsuccessful project delivery
• Strong understanding of data protection principles (e.g., leastprivilege, data classification, access control)
• Experience working in environments with low data securitymaturity or resistance to change is a strong plus
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the abilityto influence behavioral change
• Knowledge of privacy regulations and ISO 27001 is beneficial
• Good knowledge and strong interest in Cyber Security(best-practices, standards, technology) & good knowledge in IS/IT (network,endpoint, cloud, application, ...)
• Strong problem-solving and analyticalthinking
• Ability to lead engineering initiatives andmentor teams
• Excellent communication and stakeholdermanagement skills
