Job summary

Job description

Embark on a transformative journey as an Engineering Manager – VP, where you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Barclays Global Technology team. You will manage stakeholder relationships, communicate complex ideas effectively, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Masters or Bachelors Degree (preferably in Computer Science/Engineering)
  • Proven application development experience in Oracle PL/SQL for banking applications/products (Avaloq knowledge would be an added advantage) and people management skills.
  • Experience in a large IT organization working in a support environment, supporting mission‑critical complex systems utilizing a large number of technologies and heavy reliance on batch processing.
  • Avaloq Script / Oracle PL/SQL
  • Knowledge of UNIX, Agile Central and version control tools
  • Working knowledge of any banking products. Experience with Avaloq or alternatively in other core banking solutions (e.g., Finacle, T24, BaNCS etc.)
  • Full understanding of the software development life‑cycle.
  • Good to have working knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, Visio, Service Now and Agile.
  • In‑depth knowledge of and proven track record in the financial services industry.
  • Excellent overall knowledge of banking applications and in‑depth knowledge of several functional modules such as security trading, order management, settlement, corporate actions, credit, payments etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, stakeholder management skills, conflict management skills.
Highly Valued Skills
  • Leadership experience in Private Banking IT delivery programs.
  • Good to have working knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, Visio, Service Now and Agile.

Purpose of the Role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities
  • Development and delivery of high‑quality software solutions using industry‑aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimised for performance.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participation in code reviews, and promotion of a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Staying informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contributing to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
