Fareportal is seeking an Engineering Manager (Mobile) to lead iOS/Android platforms, driving architecture, delivery, and scale for peak OTA traffic. Transition from IC to managing a top-tier mobile team responsible for concept-to-store lifecycles.
You will partner with Product, UX, and MarTech, enforce security and data protection, coach engineers, and define roadmaps ensuring high uptime and performance across our travel apps.
Fareportal is a travel technology company powering a next-generation travel concierge service. Utilizing its innovative technology and company owned and operated global contact centres, Fareportal has built strong industry partnerships providing customers access to over 500 airlines, a million lodgings, and hundreds of car rental companies around the globe. With a portfolio of consumer travel brands including CheapOair and OneTravel, Fareportal enables consumers to book-online, on mobile apps for iOS and Android, by phone, or live chat. Fareportal provides its airline partners with access to a broad customer base that books high-yielding international travel and add-on ancillaries.
We are seeking a high-performing Engineering Manager (Mobile) with comprehensive, end-to-end requirement-to-delivery experience. In this role, you will transition from individual contribution to managing a high-caliber team of mobile engineers, including Team Leads and Staff Engineers.
You will own the technical architecture, cross-platform development, native modules, UI styling frameworks, and API integrations for our iOS and Android applications. As a delivery and people leader, you will be entirely responsible for the "Concept-to-Store" lifecycle, ensuring our mobile booking engines scale to handle peak OTA traffic with maximum uptime.
Take total accountability for the mobile roadmap from initial product requirement scoping to final store deployment. Ensure predictable sprint velocities and on-time delivery across multiple parallel tracks.
Oversee and approve client-side mobile architectures. Guide the team on when to leverage cross-platform modules (React Native) versus writing native performance bridges (Swift/Kotlin).
Enforce robust security and performance standards for data layers interacting with RESTful APIs, GraphQL (Apollo Client), and real-time WebSockets. Ensure seamless optimization for low-bandwidth environments.
Oversee the integration and performance impact of Mobile Measurement Partners (MMPs like AppsFlyer/Branch), customer engagement platforms (e.g., CleverTap, Braze), and ensure flawless execution of complex deep linking/universal links across the booking funnel.
Act as the final gatekeeper for App Store Connect and Google Play Console. Navigate complex store review guidelines, manage rejection appeals, and ensure the app stays compliant with evolving platform policies.
Design robust, high-concurrency client architectures capable of handling sudden, massive traffic surges typical of B2C flash sales, holiday booking rushes, and flash marketing events without degradation.
Successfully lead, inspire, and retain an elite team of highly skilled developers. Turn divergent technical opinions among senior engineers into unified architectural decisions.
Act as the strategic counterpart to Product Managers and UX/UI Leads. Translate business requirements into technical roadmaps, negotiate sprint scopes, and ensure engineering deliverables align tightly with OTA business KPIs (conversion rates, booking funnel optimization).
Promote a high-standard engineering culture focused on code quality, thorough documentation, reusable UI component libraries, and automated testing (Jest, Detox, Appium).
Strategically balance feature delivery with technical debt. Advocate for engineering refactors by translating technical gains (e.g., modularization) into clear business value for non-technical stakeholders.
Run quarterly performance reviews, establish clear individual career ladders, and mentor team leads. Design rigorous interview loops to attract top-tier mobile talent in a competitive market.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of best practices for securing Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Payment Card Industry (PCI) data within mobile clients, guiding the team on safe payment processing and data tokenization without acting as the primary compliance officer.
Architect storage and transmission strategies that respect regional data localization laws and data-at-rest encryption requirements.
Mitigate advanced WebView vulnerabilities—including Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) and script injection—ensuring strict security controls over hybrid features.
Mandate certificate pinning across native and cross-platform network layers. Manage complex token lifecycles and secure token exchanges (OAuth, JWT) seamlessly across native/web boundaries.
Optimize React Native-specific bottlenecks, including JS thread blocking, memory leaks, bridge traffic reduction, and Hermes engine tuning to ensure native-like 60fps scrolling and fast TTI (Time to Interactive).
Establish expert-level implementation of Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and logging tools (e.g., Sentry, Datadog, New Relic).
Transform raw error metrics, crash logs, and latency telemetry into clear, prioritized technical backlogs that actively improve app stability and user retention.
Define, monitor, and defend strict operational SLAs, targeting a >99.9% crashfree user rate and optimized app launch velocities.
Ensure the application meets WCAG guidelines and supports native screen readers (VoiceOver/TalkBack), maintaining an inclusive booking experience for all users. Required
iOS (Xcode, Swift, Objective-C, UIKit/SwiftUI, Core Data) and Android (Android Studio, Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, SQLite/Room).
RESTful APIs, GraphQL (Apollo Client), WebSockets, Axios, and RTK Query.
CodePush / Expo Application Services (EAS), AppsFlyer, Branch, Firebase, or similar MMP/Engagement SDKs.
Jest, Detox, Appium, XCTest, Espresso, Fastlane, and mobile CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
10+ years of professional software development experience, with a minimum of 3 years specifically in Engineering Management directly leading mobile teams.
Proven experience managing large scale D2C app development in a B2C organization.
Experience in the travel domain would be helpful but is not mandatory.
Engineering degree from a Tier 1 college.
