Job summary

PayPay India is seeking an Engineering Manager (Java background) to lead the payments product engineering team in Gurugram. You will drive delivery, align with stakeholders, and ensure scalable backend systems for a superior customer experience.

You will mentor engineers, oversee architecture, and help the team move fast with a bias for action. Strong communication is essential; English is required, Japanese is a plus.

Qualifications

• 9–14 years of hands-on backend development experience.
• 2+ years of team management experience.
• Track record designing, developing and supporting highly scalable, responsive web/mobile applications.
• Professional experience in a technical management or leadership role.
• Have a technical mindset and understand complex systems design.
• Bias towards action and Get Things Done attitude.
• Solutions oriented.
• Able to maintain high performance in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills; English and Japanese are nice but not required.
• Leverage AI/LLM-based tools in daily workflows with human oversight.

• Lead the team in its daily tasks, prioritize them, and make decisions based on changing business priorities.
• Structure and facilitate the team’s workflow and development process.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders across the company to understand their requirements and translate them into the team's technical requirements.
• Fosters the team's evolution and its member's growth, including, but not limited to, 1:1s and performance evaluation.
