Job summary

OpenFX is building cross-border payment infrastructure, seeking a seasoned DevOps Lead to own the platform’s cloud foundation, CI/CD pipelines, and security/compliance controls. You will guide a 10+ engineers team, shaping resilience, tooling, and DevOps practices across regions.

You will collaborate with InfoSec, Compliance, and Legal early to embed governance into design, scale operations, and mentor engineers to grow their skills and impact.

Qualifications

Role Overview

OpenFX processes billions of dollars in transaction volume every month across global corridors. DevOps owns the infrastructure every product runs on, from the cloud foundations through to the delivery path and the recovery posture, for our trading, banking, payments and settlement products.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support a DevOps pod of 10+ engineers. You are accountable for the roadmap, the engineering standards and the cloud budget. You create the conditions in which the team can deliver them.
• Own the resilience of our systems. Design the failover and prove it with regular drills.
• Own compliant infrastructure: build the controls for DORA, PCI DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR into the platform itself (IaC policy, least-privilege and just-in-time access, change management, audit logging, data residency).
• Own the delivery path: CI/CD, environments, artefact and secrets management, progressive rollout and rollback. Our peers should be able to ship when they need to, without filing a ticket.
• Own observability and support incident response: SLOs for tier-1 services, alerting, fast DevOps escalation support for the on-call team, and blameless post-mortems.
• Stay close to the work. You know the systems well enough to review a design, help debug an incident and roll up your sleeves when the team needs an extra pair of hands.
• Lead in service of the team. Clear the path so engineers can do their best work, show up personally when the on-call team escalates to DevOps, and give the credit to the people who earned it.
• Work closely with InfoSec, Compliance and Legal early, allowing security and regulatory requirements to shape the design from the start. Agree clear ownership, scope and timelines for sign-off.
• Grow the team: know when the team needs another person and make the case, help close open roles, and invest in the engineers we already have so they keep growing in skill and scope.

What We Are Looking For

Must-haves:

• 8 or more years in infrastructure engineering, of which 4 or more years managing an infrastructure team at scale.
• Has operated in a regulated or audited environment.
• Has seen scale. You have run production infrastructure for a high-traffic system across multiple regions and learned from the incidents, migrations and growth that come with it.
• Can still ship code when needed. You can write Terraform, Helm and pipeline code, and debug a production incident.
• Demonstrated hiring and performance management.
• Leads by growing the people around you. Your former reports would say you listened first, cleared the way for them and were honest with them.
• Uses AI agents and assistants to automate the operational toil out of DevOps work.
• Clear written communicator. We are async-heavy and globally distributed.

What helps you stand out:

• Experience running infrastructure in fintech, payments, banking or exchanges.
• Multi-cloud in production: real workloads on AWS plus GCP or Azure.
• Hands‑on with DORA, PCI DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001 or GDPR audits from the infrastructure side.
• Chaos engineering or game‑day programmes.

What Success Looks Like

• Resilience: Tier-1 services have documented recovery objectives, and failover drills continue to be run and meet their RTO and RPO targets.
• Audit readiness: Infrastructure controls hold up across DORA, PCI DSS, SOC 2 and ISO 27001 cycles, and evidence is available from the platform when auditors ask for it.
• Delivery: Product teams deploy to production when they need to, with a low change failure rate and fast, reliable rollback.
• Operational health: Tier-1 services hold their SLOs, incidents are caught by monitoring, and post-mortem actions are followed through.
• Cost: Cloud spend scales efficiently with transaction volume, with clear per-product attribution.
• Team: Engineers are growing in skill and scope, feel trusted to lead their own work, and the workload is sustainable.
• Talent: Strong engineers want to join and stay, and you raise the bar of every hiring loop you sit on.
