Job summary

Google Cloud's Looker team seeks an Engineering Manager for the Looker Control Plane to lead multi-cloud infrastructure initiatives and guide architecture across GCP, Terraform provisioning, and multi-region GKE orchestration for Looker at web scale.

You will manage a software engineering team, shape technical strategy, and partner with product management to drive high-impact projects such as billing automation and disaster recovery. This role requires strong cloud expertise and leadership.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience in languages such as Python, C, C++, Java, Go, or JavaScript.
• 3+ years in a technical leadership role overseeing projects and 2+ years in people management.
• Experience leading engineering teams with Kubernetes and cloud platforms (GCP).

Responsibilities

• Define mid-to-long-term vision for the Looker Control Plane and a roadmap for global scalability.
• Build, manage, and inspire a software engineering team and conduct performance reviews.
• Lead resolution of open-ended problems like billing architecture, multi-region disaster recovery, and migrations between clouds.
• Collaborate across groups, influence system designs beyond your direct team, and partner with product to ensure cohesive execution.
• Translate product vision into a technical roadmap with prioritized deliverables and successful project execution.

Minimum qualifications

• Experience leading engineering teams working with container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform).

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
• Experience with building, scaling, and maintaining distributed systems and multi-cloud infrastructure.
• Demonstrated ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders (like Product Management) to navigate high ambiguity and define long-term technical strategy.
