Job summary

bigbasket is seeking an Engineering Manager for Java to lead the development of scalable, reliable systems and drive performance improvements in India’s growing online grocery space.

Based in Bengaluru, you will mentor engineers, shape architecture, and own delivery of mission-critical services while embracing rapid experimentation and modern tech stacks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience coding in Java, Python and/or Go Lang.
• Experience with algorithms and data structures.
• Experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience with Microservices / Distributed event-based architectures.
• Ability to debug, optimize code and automate routine tasks.
• Ability to systematically approach problem-solving and take initiative with a sense of accountability.
• Must be able to work independently and enjoy working at a fast-paced start-up environment who is adept at experimenting with new technologies.
• Must have excellent communication (verbal & written), interpersonal, leadership, and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, write and deliver software to improve the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of bigbasket's both internally critical and our externally visible services.
• Solve problems relating to mission critical services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence, with the goal of automating response to all non- exceptional service conditions.
• Influence and create new designs, architectures, standards, and methods for large-scale distributed systems.
• Engage in service capacity planning and forecasting, software performance analysis and system tuning.
• Have in mind the big picture of how systems are related to each other and use a breadth of tools and approaches to solve a broad spectrum of problems.
• Practicing processes like limiting time spent on operational work, blameless post-mortems, and proactive identification of potential outages factor into iterative improvement.

Who are we looking for?
