Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend Java experience (Java 11+).

• Extensive AWS cloud experience (EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, SQS/SNS, ElastiCache).
• Strong SQL skills (MySQL/PostgreSQL) with indexing and ACID concepts.
• NoSQL experience (MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Knowledge of distributed caching, rate limiting, idempotent APIs.

Responsibilities

Job description

Responsibilities:

• Architect and Develop: Design and implement highly scalable, low-latency backend services and APIs in Java. Lead rigorous code reviews, enforcing SOLID principles, clean code heuristics, and secure coding practices.
• System Design and Streaming: Build robust microservices, RESTful/gRPC APIs, and event-driven architectures utilising distributed streaming platforms (e. g., Apache Kafka, Kinesis) for real-time payment processing and data pipelines.
• Engineering Excellence: Champion technical standards across the engineering team by conducting Architecture Design Reviews (ADRs), establishing best practices, and driving consistent agile delivery.
• Distributed Architecture: Navigate complex architectural tradeoffs in a large-scale distributed environment. Implement advanced synchronous and asynchronous communication patterns, circuit breakers, load balancing, and distributed tracing.
• Performance Optimisation: Optimise API performance and database queries for massive throughput. Ensure high code coverage and reliability through TDD/BDD, extensive integration testing, and performance profiling.
• DevOps and CI/CD: Orchestrate CI/CD pipelines leveraging containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure seamless, zero-downtime automated deployments.
• Technical Leadership: Partner with engineering leadership and Staff/Principal engineers to resolve complex concurrency issues, JVM-level bottlenecks, and distributed system anomalies.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of deep, hands‑on backend software engineering experience, primarily in the Java ecosystem (Java 11+, JVM internals, Garbage Collection tuning, memory management).
• 2+ years of experience as a Technical Lead, actively mentoring engineers, unblocking teams, and driving technical roadmaps.
• Proficiency with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, and ORM frameworks (Hibernate/JPA).
• Strong production experience with cloud-native architectures on AWS (EC2 EKS, RDS, S3 SQS/SNS, ElastiCache) and a solid understanding of cloud networking and security.
• Deep expertise in RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL) including query execution plans, indexing strategies, locking mechanisms, and ACID transaction isolation levels.
• Solid experience with NoSQL datastores (MongoDB, Cassandra).
• High-Scale Concepts: Strong understanding of distributed caching (Redis/Memcached), rate limiting, building idempotent APIs, and managing state in distributed environments.
