Job summary

John Crane, a business of Smiths Group, is seeking an experienced Purchasing professional to manage direct materials and subcontract procurement for our Bangalore operations. You will drive PO approvals, coordinate with Bangalore purchasing teams, build supplier relationships, and pursue cost savings through negotiation and best-practice tools.

The role requires a engineering background, 5 years overall purchasing/ supply chain experience, and strong data analysis skills with Excel.

Qualifications

• Diploma or University Degree in Engineering discipline (Mechanical/Electrical preferred).
• 5 years of overall experience with 3+ years in purchasing/ supply chain.
• Experience in vendor selection and technical specification.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for execution of direct materials and subcontract purchasing.
• Approval of Purchase Orders per authority policy.
• Process and acknowledge POs and MRP messages to fulfil material needs by Bangalore teams.
• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers.
• Negotiate prices and terms to deliver cost savings.
• Control direct material costs and achieve annual savings targets.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and value addition.

Job Description

Key Activities

• Accountable for execution of direct materials and subcontract purchasing in line with Smiths Group PLC Code of Conduct, ensuring that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships
• Ensuring approval of Purchase Orders in line with the Delegation of Authority policy and approval process
• Ensure the timely and efficient processing and acknowledgement of purchase orders and MRP action messages (Order, Expedite, De-Expedite, Cancel) or purchase requisitions to fulfil the material requirements of the operation by the Bangalore purchasing teams
• Build and maintain relationships with new and existing suppliers
• Negotiate improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilizing negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods
• Control Direct material costs and achieve savings as per annual targets
• Develop ideas to improve operational efficiency, add value and support continuous improvement culture and personal accountability in area of responsibility.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Knowledge/Skills:

• Able to read and understand technical drawings
• Analytical skills - good knowledge of Microsoft programs,and data analysis including v-look ups and pivot tables
• Process-driven approach and "systems thinking"
• Ability to solve problems independently and in a structed way (e.g. A3), able to use data to inform decisions
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills
• Ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers
• Ability to project a positive and professional image on behalf of the organization, always promoting ethical procurement
• Ability to solve problems independently, keen and able to use initiative and lead.
• SAP knowledge but not essential

Qualifications

The Individual:

Education/Training:

Diploma or University Degree in Engineering discipline (Mechanical/Electrical preferred)

Experience:

5 years of overall experience with 3+ years of experience working within a purchasing/ supply chain department

Experience in technical specification and selection of vendors, including material and product knowledge.
