Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Chennai, India, is seeking a seasoned Product Engineer to design, develop, build, and implement reman components, products, or technologies for Reman Engine Arrangements.

You will lead end-to-end product engineering activities, participate in NPI programs, manage BOMs, validate virtual builds, address build issues, and ensure readiness for production release while collaborating with international partners.

Qualifications

• Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering or Materials Science curriculum.
• The candidate should possess 10 to 15 years of experience in Product Engineering, Design Engineering, Remanufacturing and Salvage Technologies.
• Strong working knowledge in Creo for 3D design, modeling, detailing, and drawing creation.
• Ability to apply Caterpillar engineering standards, design guidelines, and industry specifications in the development and release of high-quality engineering solutions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate effectively in a global work environment.

Responsibilities

• End-to-End Product Engineering support for Reman Engine Arrangements and Engine Components.
• Lead program execution activities, including BOM configuration, VDRA completion, and validation of virtual builds.
• Evaluate and drive Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) from manufacturing plants and ensure timely corrective actions.
• Assess OE design changes and their impact on Reman products for feasibility, quality, manufacturability, and alignment with objectives.
• Assess remanufacturability and Reman/Reuse decisions to maximize component recovery and reduce new part usage.
• Collaborate with international process partners and cross-functional teams to obtain inputs and communicate outcomes.

Role Definition

Product Engineering role who Designs, develops, builds, and implements Reman components, products, or technologies.

Responsibilities

• The Position is responsible for End-to-End Product Engineering support for Reman Engine Arrangements and Engine Components.
• The candidate should actively participate in Reman Engines NPI programs and be capable of leading program execution activities, including BOM configuration, completion of VDRA, validation of virtual builds, identification and resolution of build-related issues, and ensuring overall design readiness for production release.
• The incumbent should have the capability to evaluate, resolve, and drive Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) originating from manufacturing plants, ensuring timely implementation of corrective actions and the successful release of engineering prints in support of production requirements
• The candidate should be capable of evaluating and making informed decisions on Original Equipment (OE) design changes and assessing their impact on Reman products, ensuring technical feasibility, product quality, manufacturability, and alignment with Reman engineering objectives
• The candidate should be capable of assessing reman ufacturability and making Reman/Reuse decisions for a wide range of engine components, ensuring technical feasibility, product quality, reliability, and cost effectiveness, while maximizing component recovery and reducing new part usage.
• The candidate should possess strong technical knowledge of various remanufacturing and salvage techniques for engine components, with the ability to assess component recoverability, identify reclaim opportunities, and support cost-effective remanufacturing solutions while maintaining product quality and reliability
• The candidate should possess strong product knowledge of Caterpillar diesel and gas engines and their major components, including cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, pistons and connecting rods, rotating components, fuel injectors, and turbochargers, along with a thorough understanding of remanufacturing and salvage techniques used to restore component functionality, reliability, and value
• The candidate should be responsible for effectively collaborating and communicating with international process partners and cross-functional teams to obtain technical inputs, conduct design reviews, align on engineering decisions, and communicate project outcomes, recommendations, and status updates

Required Qualifications

• Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering or Materials Science curriculum.
• The candidate should possess 10 to 15 years of experience in Product Engineering, Design Engineering, Remanufacturing and Salvage Technologies, with strong expertise in product development, engineering change management and component recovery processes.
• Experience with Caterpillar diesel and gas engines and engine components will be considered a significant advantageStrong working knowledge in Creo for 3D design, modeling, detailing, and drawing creation.
• Ability to apply Caterpillar engineering standards, design guidelines, and industry specifications in the development and release of high-quality engineering solutions.Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate effectively in a global work environment.
