Job description

What You’ll Do

The should cost engineer will be responsible for the development of part and product cost estimates, working within a specialized team in the Supply Chain Management shared services center. The work is process-based, involves deploying analytical models, and requires close collaboration with business stakeholders and subject‑matter experts.

• Build part and product costing models using internal and external sources of information.
• Run relevant software models to generate cost estimates.
• Validate cost estimates based on experience and collaboration with subject‑matter experts.
• Analyze Total Cost of Ownership of products.
• Prepare reports, perform data analysis, and present findings to senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 6‑10 years of experience in Should Costing, or Masters with 4‑6 years of experience.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of one or two commodities such as Machining, Forging, Sheet Metal, or Mechanical Assemblies.
• Subject‑matter expertise in selected commodities.
• Proficiency in Design for Manufacturing Analysis (DFM), procurement processes, PPAP, GD&T, and various raw materials & commodities.
• Knowledge of statistical tools (e.g., regression analysis) for target costing.
• Expert user of should‑costing tools such as Costimator, aPriori, Facton, or PriceSystems.
• Hands‑on experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, ProE, SolidWorks).
• Strong business acumen and understanding of market dynamics.
• Negotiation skills, 3D printing, design thinking, IoT, and technology aptitude.
• Experience building and maintaining a knowledge‑management database for sourcing decisions.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
