Job summary

Larsen & Toubro in Chennai is seeking a Design Engineer Civil to perform complete analysis and design of civil and structural works for AIS Substations (132kV to 500kV). You will coordinate with Electrical, Instrumentation and Mechanical teams and prepare design documents, review drawings, and ensure timely delivery with quality.

The role requires site coordination and vendor document reviews. You will work with Draughtspersons to manage engineering activities within budget and schedule,

Qualifications

• B.Tech in Civil or M.Tech in Structural Engineering providing strong foundation in design.
• 5+ years of experience, preferably in Substation Switch Yard & Power Transmission; PV & BESS experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare design documents and review detailed engineering drawings.
• Submit structural drawings and design documents for client approval.
• Coordinate with site team and client to meet design requirements.
• Prepare and check BOQ and materials for projects.
• Review vendor engineering documents for civil and structural integrity.
• Study SIR, tender drawings and clarifications; address client queries.

Job description

The Design Engineer Civil - should be capable of understanding Local Authority , Ministry of Construction & Client requirement and carry out the complete Analysis & design of Civil & Structural works for a AIS Substation project (132kV to 500kV). He should be also well versed in doing design alteration and required changes as per site and manufacture requirement. The Design Engineer prepares the design documents and reviews the drawings for a project or a set of smaller projects including co-ordination with other disciplines viz., Electrical, Instrumentation and Mechanical. Design Engineers shall work with a team of Draughtsperson to manage the Engineering activities within budget, deliver on time and maintaining a high quality of engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation of design documents.
• Review of Detailed Engineering Drawings from Steel Manufacture & pre-cast manufacture
• Submission of Structural drawings & design document and to client for seeking approval
• Preparation of EDDR &VDDR.
• Coordination with Site Team and Client to meet the requirements of design and drawings
• Preparing & checking BOQ and material with respect to previous projects
• Preparation of Design Basis Report for seeking approval from client regarding SOW.
• Interaction with Client for Drawing Approval and Clarification
• Interaction with Site for Clarification on drawing
• Optimize the structural quantities limiting the quantity with bidding quantity & at the same time meet the client requirement.
• Communication with interdisciplinary for getting civil inputs.
• Preparing mark up for drafting.
• Checking of drawings submitted by Draughtsperson.
• Preparation of pre-bid queries, Rising technical Query with client , Solving issue with Client & Sub -Contractor with design.
• Study of clarifications & amendments, Soil investigation report (SIR), Tender drawings.

Software Skills Required

• Day to day Analysis & design: STAAD, ETABS CONCISE BEAM ,LIRA SAPR..
• Drawing: AUTOCAD & REVIT (not mandatory for working)
• Structural Detailing: TEKLA
• Proficient in MS Office

Technical Expertise

• The Design Engineer shall be capable of performing the analysis & design, drawings of structural & civil elements covering the following with local design (KMK, GOST SHNK) & international standards.
• Site Grading & Embankment Design
• Tower & Girder Design along with Foundation
• Outdoor equipment Supporting Structure Design & Foundations,
• Substation Control room buildings,
• FFPH & Water tank Design
• Transformer foundations & firewall,
• Guard house,
• Warehouse & O&M Buildings
• Roads and drainage,
• Miscellaneous works like Cable trench, Boundary wall etc related to the substations and cabling works.
• Design Engineer - Civil shall be able to review Vendor engineering documents with respect to Civil & Structural design.
• Able to review of fabrication / detailed drawings for steel supporting structures.
• The Engineer should be proficient in Steel structures, RCC structures & Geotech aspects. Knowledge of Site conditions, Topographic Conditions, environmental conditions for design calculations.

Qualification & Experience

• B. Tech. in Civil / M. Tech. in Structural Engineering / Geotech Engineering / Environmental Engineering
• 5+ years, (Preferable Experience in Substation Switch Yard & Power Transmission industry, PV & BESS Plant.
