Job description

Designation: Site Maintenance Electrician

Deployment: One position per site. Reporting: Administratively & functionally to the Admin Manager (can be updated later as and when required) Nature of role: Independent charge of the site LT electrical installation. The incumbent performs the work personally and is simultaneously the competent person in charge of the installation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintain, inspect and troubleshoot the LT distribution system (415V, 3-phase, 4-wire) including main switchgear (SFU / MCCB), distribution boards, busbars and changeover switches.

2. Monitor APFC / capacitor panels, energy meters and phase-wise load balancing; report abnormal loading and power factor deviation.

3. Conduct scheduled thermographic inspection of panels, joints and terminations; log hotspots and drive corrective action to closure.

4. Supervise MHE battery charging bays - charger condition, cable and connector integrity, ventilation, and strict adherence to the approved charging window and the overnight charging restriction.

5. Maintain uninterrupted and correct power supply to all fire-safety-critical systems: fire alarm panel, hydrant and sprinkler pump starters, jockey pump, emergency lighting and exit signage.

6. Operate and maintain DG sets and UPS systems, including scheduled load testing, battery health checks and log upkeep.

7. Maintain earth pits - watering, continuity checks, and periodic earth resistance testing in accordance with IS 3043, with measured ohmic values recorded.

8. Enforce lock-out / tag-out during all maintenance activity; issue and control electrical work permits for any contractor working on site electrical systems.

9. Maintain the site electrical register: daily checklist, test records, breakdown history, spares consumption and vendor visit records.

10. Close observations raised in third-party electrical audits, insurer risk inspections and fire safety audits, and track them to documented completion.

11. Escalate any condition requiring shutdown, capital repair or vendor intervention to the City Lead, Admin Manager and the Capex function without delay.

Statutory Qualification (Mandatory)

Electrical Supervisor Certificate of Competency issued by the State Electrical Licensing Board, valid and current in the State of posting. Rationale: the incumbent will be the sole electrical person at site. A Wireman permit authorises execution of electrical work under the control of a competent supervisor. Where no such supervisor is present at site, a Wireman-only appointment leaves the installation without a statutorily competent person in charge. A Supervisor Certificate of Competency does not restrict the holder to supervisory duties - the holder is equally authorised to carry out the work personally, which is exactly the single-man model adopted here. Note: the Certificate of Competency is issued State-wise and is not automatically portable across States. Sourcing must therefore be local to each site, and inter-site transfer of an incumbent requires prior endorsement in the receiving State.

Educational Qualification and Experience
  • ITI (Electrician) or Diploma in Electrical Engineering
  • 3-5 years of independent electrical maintenance experience in a warehouse, factory, logistics facility or comparable industrial establishment.
  • Demonstrable experience of having held sole charge of an installation - candidates whose experience is limited to working under a supervisor are not suitable for this deployment model.
Technical Competencies
  • Working knowledge of the CEA (Measures relating to Safety and Electric Supply) Regulations, 2010 and applicable State electrical rules.
  • Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams (SLD), panel schedules and circuit drawings.
  • Understanding of protection coordination fundamentals - MCB / MCCB ratings, breaking capacity, discrimination and earth fault protection.
  • Familiarity with megger testing, earth resistance testing and basic thermography interpretation.
  • Ability to maintain written records in English or the local language.
