Job summary

CDM Smith in Chennai is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design activities for multi-disciplinary projects. You will prepare electrical layouts, review calculations, and coordinate with other disciplines to ensure design integrity.

The role requires extensive experience with high voltage systems, FEED and detailed design, and strong communication and leadership skills. Candidates must be adept with Power Systems software and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is essential.
• 12+ years in conceptual design, engineering, construction and commissioning of electrical power systems.
• Experience with 4.16 kV to 69 kV designs and protective relay schemes.
• Experience with generators, Diesel Rotary UPS systems, and power system studies (load flow, short circuit).
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC standards and international practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design activities and deliverables for projects.
• Prepare electrical one-line drawings and site/building plans.
• Review calculations and drawings for technical correctness.
• Assist in 3-D model reviews in AutoCAD, Revit, etc.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to resolve design issues.
• Support senior staff in equipment selection and specifications.

Job Description

• Performing activities of a limited scope, based on principles and techniques commonly employed in electrical engineering design.
• Getting familiarized with project management techniques and CDM Smith management system to broaden the understanding of multi discipline design concepts in preparation of advancement to the next level.
• Preparation of Electrical one-line drawings, Site and building plan drawings to show the Electrical equipment layout.
• Review and checking of design calculations and drawings and to ensure technicalcorrectness and conformance to project requirements.
• Assisting in specific assignments and review of 3-D model developed in AutoCAD, Revit etc.
• Coordination with other disciplines at different stages to identify the problems with the Design progress.
• Assist senior staff in the selection and specification of various electrical system components including motor control centers, switchgear, transformers, etc.
• Supervise or coordinating the work of CADD Operators, technicians and others
• Ability to manage discipline requirements of a project independently
• Review Scope of Work from Preliminary Design Report and Estimate the man-hours required to complete the task.
• Able to perform independently on all assignments with minimum technical/ administrative instructions.
• Reporting to Discipline Lead and responsible for guiding and supervising a group of engineers / designers
• Function as Project Lead for a Project / multiple projects, and fully responsible for all electrical design activities / deliverables for the project(s).
• Able to devise new approaches to problems encountered and coordinates various technical aspect of work.
• Able to plan, investigate, conduct work requiring judgement in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques procedures and criteria.
• Able to participate to a limited degree in new business development in establishing and monitoring budgets to assess profitability.
• Able to get updated the ongoing changes in the field of Electrical engineering.
• Able to perform project management function small and moderate sized projects.

Skills & Abilities

Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience Requirement.

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is essential.
• 12+ minimum years of experience in conceptual design, engineering, construction and commissioning of electrical power system in continuous process industries from International regions (US).
• Experience with Medium Voltage systems design (4.16KV to 69KV) and Developing the Protective relay schemes for Electrical Distribution systems.
• Experience with Paralleling the Generators and Diesel Rotary UPS Systems.
• Experience with Performing Load Flow, Short circuit, Protective Device coordination, System Dynamic Stability (Transient stability), Motor Starting, and Arc flash studies using Power Systems Analysis software (preferably SKM).
• Experience in Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Detailed Design and Engineering works for Water & Waste Water Treatment works and industrial projects.
• Experience in managing work-share with offices in multiple locations is preferred.
• Experienced in managing tasks on large projects or manage phases of small projects.
• Familiarity with international standards like NEC, NFPA, BS, IEEE, IEC and standard industry practices.
• Good communication, inter-personal and leadership skills, with ability to lead a team, and interact with client / PMC personnel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Proficiency with SKM Power Tools or other electrical system analysis software isPreferred
• Development of design criteria, specifications and standards.
• Working knowledge of National Electrical Code is preferable.

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate’s salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.

Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
